Dark wave or darkwave is a music genre that emerged from the new wave and post-punk movement of the late 1970s. Dark wave compositions are largely based on minor key tonality and introspective lyrics, and have been perceived as being dark, romantic, and bleak, with an undertone of sorrow. Common features include the use of chordophones such as electric and acoustic guitar, violin, and piano, as well as electronic instruments such as synthesizer, sampler, and drum machine. The genre embraces a range of styles including cold wave, ethereal wave, gothic rock, neoclassical dark wave, and neofolk.
Projekt is a Portland, Oregon-based independent record label that specializes in darkwave, ambient, and shoegaze, started by Sam Rosenthal in 1983. Projekt is also known for releases in the gothic rock, ethereal, dream-pop, and dark cabaret genres.

The eighteen-track album features guest appearances from several notable West Coast hip hop recording artists, such as Above The Law, Coolio, Dru Down, Ice Cube, Ice-T, Kausion, K-Dee, Kokane, Luniz, L.V., Ras Kass, The Pharcyde, WC and Xzibit. Recording sessions for the album took place at Da Lawhouse Recording Studio Complex in Los Angeles, California. It was released on August 29, 1997 via Zomba Records. Audio production of the album was handled primarily by Laylaw and Derrick "D'Maq" McDowell. It peaked at number 169 on the US Billboard 200 and at number 43 on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Lemonade is the fifth studio album by Mucky Pup. It was released in 1993, and was the last record for Century Media Records. This album saw the band's style change by moving away from their comedic humorous songs into a more aggressive yet melodic sound. Since Dan Nastasi and Christopher "Junior" LaPlante left the band, John Milnes moved to guitar, Kevin Powers became the band's drummer, and piano and synthesizer were added. The album also saw the return of Marc DeBacker on bass. Glen Cummings from Scatterbrain became a co-producer for the band, and also played guitar on two songs.

The album features industrial rock acts performing cover songs originally written by gothic rock band Mission UK. The idea originated from Tony Lestat, who approached Re-Constriction Records manager Chase to release the album.
Pain Emission were an American electro-industrial group based in San Diego, California, United States. The original incarnation consisted of vocalist Shonn Bratlien and keyboardist Thomas Smith, who were assisted by lyricist Johan Sherriffs and live percussionist Barry Dost in the studio. They released two albums on COP International, Fidget in 1993 and The War Within the following year. The band ceased activities shortly after they released the EP Nudge in 1994.
