Sultansuyu Dam is a dam built on the Sultansuyu River Malatya situated in Turkey. [1] The development was backed by the Turkish State Hydraulic Works and was designed for irrigation needs. [1]
Construction began in 1986 and was completed in 1992. [2]
In 2023 an earthquake hit southern Turkey [3] and cracks over a metre wide were reported, engineers considered the dam to be damaged beyond repair. [4] As a precaution the Turkish authorities opened the dam. [5]
Ceyhun Özçelik from Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Department of Water Resources said that the water level in the dam had decreased to a meter and a half. [6]
