Sumeet Passi (born 12 September 1994) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a forward for I-League club Inter Kashi.

Club career

Early career

Passi began playing the game at a very young age and thanks his father, Jai Prakash Passi who is a former Railways player, as the man who motivated him to become a dedicated footballer. [2] Passi then began his footballing career as a training with Chandigarh Football Academy. [3] In 2007 it was announced that Passi would be the captain of the Chandigarh football team at the under-14s level for the 53rd National School Games. [3]

Senior career

Passi made his professional debut in football on 2 February 2013 against East Bengal in which he came on in the 77th minute for Dhanpal Ganesh as Pailan Arrows lost the match 2–1. [4]

Jamshedpur

On 23 July 2017, Passi was selected in the 12th round of the 2017–18 ISL Players Draft by Jamshedpur for the 2017–18 Indian Super League season. [5] He made his debut for the club on 18 February 2018 against Chennaiyin. He started the match and played 90 minutes as Jamshedpur drew 1–1. [6]

East Bengal

In August 2022, Indian Super League club East Bengal announced the signing of Passi, on a one-year deal. [7]

On 22 August, he made his debut against Indian Navy in the Durand Cup, which ended in a 0–0 stalemate. [8] [9] On 28 August, he scored a defining own goal against Kolkata derby rival ATK Mohun Bagan, when a seemingly harmless corner bounced awkwardly in front of him, to deflect inside. [10] [11] Six days later, he scored his first two goals for the club against Mumbai City, in a thrilling 4–3 win. [12] [13]

International career

Passi made his debut for India against Laos on 2 June 2016. He scored his first international goal against Laos on 7 June 2016 with an assist from Jackichand Singh. [14]

Due to lengthened schedule of 2022 AFC Cup, the knockout stage is moved to 2022–23 season from 2021–22 season as it is to be played in September 2022. The principle team owner, Sanjeev Goenka, announced after winning the 2023 Indian Super League Final that ATK Mohun Bagan will be rebranded as Mohun Bagan Super Giant from the next season.

The 2022–23 Chennaiyin season is the club's Ninth season since its establishment in 2014 as well as their Ninth season in 2022–23 Indian Super League season.In addition to the league, they will also compete in the 2022 Durand Cup and AIFF Super Cup.

The 2022–23 season is the sixth season in Jamshedpur FC's existence, and their fifth season in the Indian Super League. This season of the ISL witnesses the return of the home-away format of the matches similar to that of the 2019–20 Indian Super League season after a break of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The 2022–23 season was Odisha Football Clubs's fourth professional season in the Indian Super League since their establishment in 2019. Odisha finished 6th in the Indian Super League regular season table and lost to ATK Mogun Bagan in the play-off knockout. The club won the Super Cup for the first time in their history and were knocked out of Durand Cup in the quarter-finals.
