Suneel Puranik also known as Sunil Puranik is an Indian film and tele-serial actor,director and producer who predominantly working in the Kannada Film and Television Industry. [1] [2] [3] [4] He was the President of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
Suneel was born and brought up in Dharwad.[ citation needed ] He attended Junior Technical School,Hubli and Karnataka High School,Dharwad,obtained Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from K.H.K Institute,Dharwad and pursued professional training in film making from Adarsha Film Institute.[ citation needed ] Suneel married Suhasini in 1991 and has two sons Sagar Puranik (born 1992),and Sameer Puranik (born 2000).[ citation needed ]
Suneel started his career in film industry as an actor in tele-serial. His first project was Venkataswami Pranaya Prasangagalu directed by M. S. Sathyu. Thereafter he assisted V. Somashekhar in directing movie named Ranaranga and Parashuram. Chirasmarane a Kannada TV serial about freedom fighters from Karnataka such as,Mundaragi Bhimarao,Naragunda Babasaheb,Surapura Venkatappa Nayaka,Sangolli Rayanna,Kitturu Chennamma,etc telecasted by Doordarshan was directed by him 1997. In 2010,he made his directorial debuts with film ‘Gurukula’about the Gurukula,an education system of our ancient India which won Best Children’s Movie Award State Award in 2009-2010. He has held positions in the Kannada Film and Television Industry such as Member,Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy,Member,Karnataka Chalanachitra Nirdeshakara Sangha,Member,and Karnataka Chalanachitra Prashasti Samithi. Suneel Puranik was an honorary Member in the Jury of National Film Awards,2016 and was a member of jury in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2018. [11] [4]

Kannada cinema,also known as Sandalwood,or Chandanavana,is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba,and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The film was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji,who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bangalore.
Sangolli Rayanna was an Indian military leader. Born in Sangolli,Belgavi in [Halumatha Kuruba gowda] family,he served as a senior commander in the military of the princely state of Kittur during the early 19th century,when the state was ruled by Kittur Chennamma. After Chennamma lead a failed rebellion against the British East India Company (EIC) in response to the EIC's doctrine of lapse in 1824,Rayanna continued to resist Company rule in India.when rayanna fought against the British. After leading another uprising against EIC authority,he was ultimately captured by the British and executed by hanging in 1831. Rayanna's life was the subject of the Kannada-language films Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna (1967) and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (2012).
Kittur Chennamma was the Indian Queen of Kittur,a former princely state in present-day Karnataka. She led an armed resistance against the British East India Company,in defiance of the Paramountcy,in an attempt to retain control over her dominion. She defeated the Company in the first revolt,but died as a prisoner of war after the second rebellion. As one of the first and few female rulers to lead kittur forces against British colonisation,she continues to be remembered as a folk hero in Karnataka,she is also an important symbol of the Indian independence movement.
Girija,known by her screen name Shruti,is an Indian actress,television personality and politician. She is Winner of Biggboss Kannada Season 3,as an actress,she predominantly appears in Kannada film industry. She is currently serving as chief secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party's women's wing in its Karnataka cadre.
Darshan Thoogudeepa known mononymously as Darshan is an Indian actor,producer,and distributor who works predominantly in Kannada films. One of the leading contemporary actors of Kannada cinema,Darshan established the production house Thoogudeepa Productions in 2006. Its first production was Jothe Jotheyali,with Darshan in a special appearance. His performances in Anatharu (2007) and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (2012) won him praise from critics;his performance in the latter as the 19th-century warrior Sangolli Rayanna won him the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor.
Chandrashekhara Basavanneppa Kambara is a prominent Indian poet,playwright,folklorist,film director in Kannada language and the founder-vice-chancellor of Kannada University in Hampi also president of the Sahitya Akademi,country's premier literary institution,after Vinayak Krishna Gokak (1983) and U.R. Ananthamurthy (1993). He is known for effective adaptation of the North Karnataka dialect of the Kannada language in his plays,and poems,in a similar style as in the works of D.R. Bendre.
Anuradha,known by her stage name Tara,is a National award winning Indian actress,known for her work in Kannada cinema and politics. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2009 and is currently a nominated member of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
Budaguru Ramakrishnaiah Panthulu was an Indian film director,producer and actor. He is best known for directing films in Kannada,Tamil,Telugu and Hindi. His most popular films are Karnan,Veerapandiya Kattabomman,Sri Krishnadevaraya,School Master and Kittur Channamma,B. R. Panthulu,is a successful actor and converted Ma. Po. Si.'s biographic works Veerapandiya Kattabomman and Kappalottiya Thamizhan to celluloid.
Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language war film directed by Naganna and produced by Anand Appugol. Darshan,Jaya Prada and Nikita Thukral play lead roles. The film is about Sangolli Rayanna,a prominent freedom fighter from Karnataka,who fought the East India Company till he was captured and executed in 1830.
Karnataka State Film Award for Best Cinematographer is a state film award of the Indian state of Karnataka given during the annual Karnataka State Film Awards. The award honors Kannada language films.
Channapatna Ramaswami Simha,better known as C. R. Simha,was an Indian actor,director,dramatist and playwright. He was best known for his work in Kannada films and for his work in stage shows. Starting his career in Prabhat Kalavidaru,a theatre group based in Bengaluru he acted in numerous Kannada plays which reached the cult status. He started his own theatre group called "Nataranga" in 1972 and directed many successful plays such as Kakana Kote,Thughlaq and Sankranthi.
Bindu Madhav Pathak was an exponent of rudra veena and Sitar. He played Khayal style of music on been. He was an 'A' grade artist of All India Radio. Some of his famous students are Hindraj Divekar,Shrikant Pathak,Ramchandra V Hegde and Jyoti Hegde. He was a recipient of several awards and titles,including the Karnataka Kala Tilak Award,Sri Kanak Purandhar Prashasti,Arya Bhata Award,and "Vidyaparipoorna" title. Pathak retired as the Head of the Department of Music of Karnatak University. He died at 68 on 4 February 2004.
Girija Lokesh is an Indian theatre and film actress and occasional film producer who works in Kannada cinema. She is wife of actor Lokesh,and is the mother of actor and television presenter Srujan Lokesh. In recognition of her contribution towards Kannada cinema,she was honoured with Rajyotsava Award by the Government of Karnataka in 2013.
Vidushi Shashikala Dani is an Indian Hindustani classical Jal tarang artist. She is one among the few musicians and presently the only All India Radio-graded female exponent of the Jal Tarang. She is a multi-instrument artist with concert and teaching experience in Jal Tarang,Harmonium,Sitar,Violin,Dilruba and Tabla. She is also an All India Radio-graded vocalist in the Gamaka genre of Hindustani Light Music.

Sagar made his film debut with Ring Road Suma (2015),which is notable for,it was made by an all-women crew,the first in Kannada language. He was selected as the best debut director (Kannada) in the 11th South Indian International Movie Awards for Dollu,the film won two awards for Best Feature Film –Kannada.
Manasaare was an Indian Kannada language soap opera which premiered on 24 February 2020 in Udaya TV and ended on 13 November 2021. The show stars Priyanka Chincholi and Sujay Hegde in lead roles. It is the remake of the Telugu serial Pournami.
Hondisi Bareyiri is a 2023 Kannada romantic drama film written and directed by debutant Ramenahalli Jagannatha,produced by Sunday Cinemas. It features Praveen Tej,Naveen Shankar,Shri Mahadev,Aishani Shetty,Bhavana Rao,Anirudh Acharya and Archana Jois. The composer was Jose Costa and the cinematographer was Shanthi Sagar. Ramenahalli Jagannatha penned the dialogues with Prashanth Rajappa and Masti. The film was released on 10 April 2023. It received positive reviews from critics and audiences.
