Bharathan was an Indian film maker, artist, and art director. Bharathan is noted for being the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema, along with Padmarajan and K. G. George, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed. A train of directors, and screenwriters followed this school onto the 1990s including Sibi Malayil, Kamal, Lohithadas and Jayaraj.
Tezaab (transl. Acid) is a 1988 Indian Hindi-language action romance film starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. Trimurti (transl. Trinity) is a 1995 Indian Hindi-language action drama film starring Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Anjali Jathar and Priya Tendulkar. It was the last completed film for director Mukul S. Anand, who died while filming Dus in 1997. It earned a record opening weekend of around ₹3.07 crore net, and becoming the "first film to record a ₹1 crore net opening day."
Vaisali is a 1989 Indian Malayalam-language epic mythological drama film directed and edited by Bharathan. Produced by M. M. Ramachandran and scripted by M. T. Vasudevan Nair, it was an adaptation of a sub-story told by Vedavyasa to Yudhishthira in the epic Mahabharatha. It is the story of Vaisali, a devadasi girl who was assigned the mission of seducing Rishyasringa, the son of Vibhandaka and bringing him to Champapuri to perform a Yajna to bring rain.
Kalpana Ranjani, better known mononymously as Kalpana, was an Indian actress who appeared in South Indian films, predominantly in Malayalam and Tamil. Kalpana has acted in over 300 films in various South Indian languages. She won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Thanichalla Njan (2012) at the 60th National Film Awards. Kalpana started her career as a child artist in the late 1970s. Although she came into the industry with the intention of being a lead actress, she turned out to be popular among the audiences for her comic roles.
Bulandi is a 2000 Indian Hindi-language drama film. It is a remake of the Tamil movie Nattamai. It stars Anil Kapoor in a dual role alongside Rajinikanth, who reprised his role from the Telugu film Pedarayudu, Rekha and Raveena Tandon in the lead roles. This is the last Hindi film appearance of Rajinikanth, who continued acting in only Tamil films. His subsequent Hindi films would only be dubbed versions of his Tamil films.
Ghajini is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed and co-written by A. R. Murugadoss in his Hindi film debut. It stars Aamir Khan, Asin and Jiah Khan, with Pradeep Rawat as the titular antagonist. It is a remake of Murugadoss's directorial Tamil-language film of the same name. The film tells about Sanjay Singhania (Khan), a powerful entrepreneur, who suffers from anterograde amnesia after a violent attack on him and his fiancee Kalpana (Asin).
Njan Gandharvan is a 1991 Indian Malayalam-language romantic fantasy film written and directed by P. Padmarajan. It stars Nitish Bharadwaj and Suparna Anand in lead roles. The film is an esoteric fantasy about a girl and her passion for a Gandharva, who keeps appearing from a wooden statue that she found on a beach but is invisible to others.
