Susan Margaret Pond AM FRSN FTSE FAHMS FRACP FAICD is an Australian scientist and technologist,active in business and academia,and recognised for her contributions to medicine,biotechnology,renewable energy and sustainability. She is the current president of the Royal Society of New South Wales.
Born in Sydney,Susan Pond qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Sydney,receiving the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees in 1969. She then undertook postgraduate study at the University of New South Wales,where she was awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree and at the University of Queensland,where she was awarded the Doctor of Science degree. Susan Pond was the first woman to be appointed to a Personal Professorial Chair in the Department of Medicine at the University of Queensland,the first woman to receive the Wellcome Australia Medal,and the first female Managing Director of a Johnson &Johnson Company in Australia. From February 2017 to May 2018 she was the director of Sydney Nano (The University of Sydney Nano Institute) and she is currently Chair of the NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN).
From 1994 to 1996 she served as chairman of the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee. [1]
From 2010 to 2014 she served as a director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation. [1]

Susan Pond is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales, [6] of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering,of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences,of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians,and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. [3]
She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the 1994 Australia Day Honours for services to Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology [7] and in 2001 she was awarded a Centenary Medal for service to Australian society in therapeutics. [8]
In 2013 she was awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree honoris causa by the University of Queensland [9] and in the same year she was named as one of Australia's Top 100 Women of Influence [10] by The Australian Financial Review.
Pond served as Vice President of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, [11] and Chair of the Clean Technology committee. [12]
In April 2021 Pond was elected President of the Royal Society of New South Wales,only the third woman to be elected to the post. [13]

She is the Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation &Communication Technology and is recognised internationally as the creator of the field of atomic electronics. She was the inaugural editor-in-chief of npj Quantum Information,an academic journal publishing articles in the emerging field of quantum information science. On 25 January 2018,Simmons was named as the 2018 Australian of the Year for her work and dedication to quantum information science. On 10 June 2019,Simmons was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours in recognition of her "distinguished service to science education as a leader in quantum and atomic electronics and as a role model."
Professor Tanya Mary Monro FAA FTSE FOSA FAIP GAICD is an Australian physicist known for her work in photonics. She has been Australia's Chief Defence Scientist since 8 March 2019. Prior to that she was the Deputy Vice Chancellor,Research and Innovation (DVCR&I) at the University of South Australia. She was awarded the ARC Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellowship in 2013. She was the inaugural chair of photonics,the inaugural director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale Biophotonics and the inaugural director of the Institute for Photonics &Advanced Sensing (IPAS),and the inaugural director of the Centre of Expertise in Photonics (CoEP) within the School of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Adelaide. Monro has remained an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Adelaide following her departure from the institution.
