Svetlana Varganova (born 19 November 1964) is a Russian former swimmer who competed in the 1980 Summer Olympics. [1]

Throughout her athletic career, Svetlana Varganova participated in two major international competitions, namely the 1980 Olympics and the 1982 World Championships. At the Olympics, she won a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke event, while at the 1982 Worlds, she achieved a gold medal in the same event, as well as a bronze medal in the medley relay. In addition, Varganova broke a world record for the 200m breaststroke, recording a time of 2:31.09 in 1979. In national competitions, she won a single Soviet title for the 100 breaststroke in 1982, and also secured two silver medals (1982–83) and two bronze medals (1979, 1981) for the 200 breaststroke event at the Soviet championships. Following the conclusion of her competitive career, Varganova worked as a swimming coach in her hometown of Leningrad, which is now known as St. Petersburg. [2]

She was arrested in an extensive drug bust conducted by Narcotics Control Bureau of Government of India in Goa, India in April 2023. [3]

Galina Nikolayevna Prozumenshchikova was a Soviet breaststroke swimmer who also competed in medley relays. She won five Olympic medals in 1964, 1968 and 1972 and five European Championships medals in 1966 and 1970. Her first Olympic medal, the gold in 200 m breaststroke in 1964, was the first Olympic gold in swimming for the Soviet Union. From 1964 to 1966, she set five world records: four in 200 m and one in 100 m breaststroke events. Between 1963 and 1972, she won 15 national titles and set 27 national records.

Enrique Leite (born December 12, 1963, at Villa del Cerro, Montevideo, Uruguay is a physical education teacher, swimming coach, lifeguard and an Uruguayan sprint canoeist who competed in the early 1990s. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, he was eliminated in the repechages of both the K-1 500 m and the K-1 1000 m events.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Swimming at the 1964 Summer Olympics – Women's 200 metre breaststroke</span>

The women's 200 metre breaststroke event, included in the swimming competition at the 1964 Summer Olympics, took place on 11–12 October, at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium. In this event, swimmers covered four lengths of the 50-metre (160 ft) Olympic-sized pool employing the breaststroke. It was the ninth appearance of the event, which first appeared at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. A total of 27 competitors from 15 nations participated in the event. Soviet Union's Galina Prozumenshchikova and Svetlana Babanina won their country's first ever medals in this event, with a gold and bronze medal respectively. Claudia Kolb's silver medal was the United States' second ever medal in this event, after Agnes Geraghty's silver in the inaugural event in 1924. In the heats, Australian Christine Barnetson was disqualified for an incorrect breaststroke, and Hungarian Márta Egerváry withdrew from the competition.

Micah Sumrall is an American competition swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke. She was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and finished sixth in the world in the 200-meter breaststroke event at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Back Su-Yeon is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. She edged out her teammate Jung Seul-Ki to take a bronze medal by 0.31 of a second in the 200 m breaststroke at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, with a time of 1:10.22. Back is also a member of Kang-won-do Cheong swimming club in Seoul. Previously in 2006, Back had won bronze in the 100 m breaststroke at the 2006 Asian Games.

Katalin Bor is a Hungarian swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. She represented her nation Hungary at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and has won a career total of two medals in a major international competition, spanning the 2006 European Junior Swimming Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Lillia Camille King is an American swimmer who specializes in breaststroke. She currently represents the Cali Condors, a team that is part of the International Swimming League. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke competition and also won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay, in which she swam the breaststroke leg. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, King won a silver medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay for her efforts in the prelims, the silver medal in the 200-meter breaststroke, and the bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke. She is the current world record holder in the long course 100-meter breaststroke.

Anastasia R. Makarova is a Russian competitive swimmer. In the 100 metre breaststroke, she won the gold medal at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and silver medals at the European Junior Swimming Championships in 2018 and 2019. In the 200 metre breaststroke, she won a silver medal at the 2019 World Junior Championships, a gold medal at the 2018 European Junior Championships, and a silver medal at the 2019 European Junior Championships. In the 50 metre breaststroke, she won a bronze medal at the 2019 European Junior Championships.

Nika Godun is a Russian competitive swimmer. She is a Russian record holder in the short course 4×50 metre medley relay and the 4×100 metre medley relay. She competed at the 2019 and 2021 European Short Course Championships, medaling in the 4×50 metre medley relay and 50 metre breaststroke. At the 2021 World Short Course Championships she placed fifth in the 50 metre breaststroke and the 4×100 metre medley relay, and sixth in the 100 metre breaststroke and the 4×50 metre medley relay.
