Swaranjit Singh (born 18 July 1932) is a former Indian first-class cricketer.
Singh was a left-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Eastern Punjab and Bengal in India as well as Cambridge University and Warwickshire in England between 1950 and 1962. [1]
Swaranjit Singh was educated at Khalsa College,Amritsar and Punjab University before going to England to study at Christ's College,Cambridge. [2] While he was a student at Christ's College in the 1950s,he married a fellow student from Germany. Manmohan Singh,who later became Prime Minister of India,attended their wedding. Swaranjit and his wife Irmengard,who converted to Sikhism,settled in Amritsar. [3] [4]
Operation Blue Star was an Indian Armed Forces operation between 1 and 10 June 1984 to remove Sikh militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other Sikh separatists from the buildings of the Golden Temple,the holiest site of Sikhism.

Navjot Singh Sidhu is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress,television personality and retired international cricketer. He is the former President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Formerly,he was the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in the state government of State of Punjab. Sidhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004 and contested the general election from Amritsar that year. He won the election and held the seat till 2014 winning also the next election. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2016 from Punjab before he resigned from the position the same year and quitting the party. In 2017,he joined the Indian National Congress and was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly from Amritsar East. He lost in 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election from Amritsar East Assembly constituency.

Udham Singh was an Indian revolutionary belonging to Ghadar Party and HSRA,best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer,the former lieutenant governor of the Punjab in India,on 13 March 1940. The assassination was done in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919,for which O'Dwyer was responsible and of which Singh himself was a survivor. Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940. While in custody,he used the name 'Ram Mohammad Singh Azad',which represents the three major religions in India and his anti-colonial sentiment.

Sir Michael Francis O'Dwyer was an Irish colonial officer in the Indian Civil Service (ICS) and later the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab,British India,between 1913 and 1919.
Khalsa College is a historic educational institution in the northern Indian city of Amritsar in the state of Punjab,India. Founded in 1892,the sprawling 300-acre (1.2 km2) campus is located about eight kilometers from the city-center on the Amritsar-Lahore highway,adjoining Guru Nanak Dev University campus,to which Khalsa College is academically affiliated.
Partap Singh Kairon was the 3rd Chief Minister of the Punjab province,and is widely acknowledged as the architect of post-Independence Punjab Province. Moreover,he was an Indian independence movement leader. He was jailed twice by the British Empire,once for five years for organizing protests against British rule. His political influence and views are still considered to dominate politics in Punjab.
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre,also known as the Amritsar massacre,took place on 13 April 1919. A large,peaceful crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar,Punjab,British India,during annual Baishakhi fair,to protest against the Rowlatt Act and the arrest of pro-independence activists Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr. Satya Pal. In response to the public gathering,the temporary brigadier general R. E. H. Dyer,surrounded the people with his Gurkha and Sikh infantry regiments of the British Indian Army. The Jallianwala Bagh could only be exited on one side,as its other three sides were enclosed by buildings. After blocking the exit with his troops,he ordered them to shoot at the crowd,continuing to fire even as the protestors tried to flee. The troops kept on firing until their ammunition was exhausted. Estimates of those killed vary from 379 to 1,500 or more people and over 1,200 other people were injured of whom 192 were seriously injured. Britain has never formally apologised for the massacre but expressed "deep regret" in 2019.
Amrik Singh was the President of the All India Sikh Students Federation. He was killed in the Indian Army's operation on the Golden Temple on June 6,1984.

The Eastern Punjab cricket team was an Indian domestic cricket team representing the eastern part of the Indian state of Punjab. It played 22 first-class matches,all in the Ranji Trophy,between 1950 and 1960,winning 2,losing 13 and drawing 7. It played its home matches in Amritsar and Jalandhar.
