Joanna de Albuquerque Maranhão Bezerra de Melo, or Joanna Maranhão is a swimmer from Brazil, who competed at three consecutive Summer Olympics for her native country, starting in 2004. The men's 400 metre freestyle at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships took place on 24 July in the Olympic pool at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Canada. 57 swimmers were entered and in the event in the preliminary heats, the top-8 of which advanced on to swim again in the final heat that event.

The men's 100 metre freestyle at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships occurred on 27 July and in the evening of 28 July (final) in the Olympic pool at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Canada. 131 swimmers were entered in the event, of which 124 swam in one of 17 preliminary heats. The top-16 swimmers from the heats advanced on to semifinals; the top-8 swimmers in the two semifinals heats advanced onto the next night's final.

The Women's 200 Freestyle at the 11th FINA World Aquatics Championships was swum 26 and 27 July 2005 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. On 26 July, preliminary heats and semifinals occurred, and on 27 July a final heat was swum in the evening. 64 swimmers were entered in the event, of which 62 swam in one of 8 heats. The top-16 swimmers from the preliminary heats advanced on to semifinals; the top-8 swimmers in the two semifinals heats advanced onto the next night's final.

Li Bingjie is a Chinese swimmer. She is the world record holder in the short course 400 metre freestyle. She is also the Asian record holder in the long course 400 metre freestyle as well as the short course 1500 metre freestyle. She is the 2021 World Short Course champion in the 400 metre freestyle and 800 metre freestyle. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she won a gold medal in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the 400 metre freestyle.
