Syda Namirembe Bbumba (last name sometimes spelled Bumba) (born 7 January 1952) is a Ugandan accountant,politician and banker. She served in the Cabinet of Uganda as Minister of Energy and Minerals from 2002 to 2006,Minister of Gender,Labor and Social Development from 2006 to 2008,Minister of Finance from 2009 to 2011, [1] and Minister of Gender,Labor and Social Development again from 2011 to 2012. She was also the elected Member of Parliament for Nakaseke County North,Nakaseke District She was the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy and also Chairperson of the Parliamentary Islamic Banking Forum. She was Sub-Saharan Africa's representative to the OIC Women Advisory Panel. [2]
Syda Bbumba attended Trinity College Nabbingo for her high school education. [3] She also attended Makerere College School before she entered university. [4]
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree in Accounting,obtained from Makerere University in 1974. She attended the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom,and holds a diploma in business finance from a university in Greece. [5] Her Master of Business Administration (MBA),was obtained from Kampala International University in 2006. [2]
Syda Bbumba worked as an accountant and treasury manager for 21 years at Uganda Development Bank,from 1974 until 1995. She was a member of the Uganda Electoral Commission in 1996 prior to being elected to the Parliament of Uganda,representing Nakaseke County in Nakaseke District. She has continually represented that constituency in the Ugandan parliament. She is the incumbent. [2]
From 2002 until 2006,she was the Minister of Energy &Minerals. From 2006 until 2008,she served as the Minister of Gender,Labor and Social Affairs. Bbumba has reported on the many long-term environmental problems that growing population has contributed to,but President Yoweri Museveni often still urges Ugandans to produce more children. [6]
From 18 February 2009 until 27 May 2011 she served as the Minister of Finance,being the first woman to serve in that capacity in the history of the country. [7] She was again appointed as Minister of Gender,Labor &Social Development on 27 May 2011,replacing Gabriel Opio,who was dropped from the Cabinet. [8] She resigned from cabinet on 16 February 2012 on allegations of mismanagement of government funds however she retained her parliamentary seat. [9]
With her appointment as Uganda's Finance Minister,Syda Bbumba also became the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the East African Development Bank (EADB). [10] Also in her role as Minister of Finance,she became responsible for the National Social Security Fund (NSSF),a quasi-government organ that used to be under the Ministry of Gender,Labor and Social Development,which she had just left. The NSSF was moved from the Gender Ministry to the Finance Ministry in October 2004. [11] In a cabinet reshuffle on 27 May 2011,Syda Bbumba was moved back to the Gender Ministry as the new Minister. She was replaced by Maria Kiwanuka at the Finance Ministry. [12]
Makerere College School is a co-educational government aided O and A Level school founded in 1945 by Makerere University. In 1945 Makerere University was still a constituent college of the University of London. She also served as the elected member of Parliament for Mukono South Constituency in Mukono District,from 2006 until her retirement in 2011.
Hope Ruhindi Mwesigye is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. She is the former Minister for Agriculture,Animal Industry &Fisheries from 16 February 2009 until 27 May 2011. Prior to that,she served as the State Minister for Local Government,from June 2006 until February 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011,she was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Tress Bucyanayandi.
Gabriel Opio is a Ugandan economist and politician. He was the Minister of Gender,Labor &Social Development in the Cabinet of Uganda from 16 February 2009 to 27 May 2011. Before his service at the Gender Ministry,he served as the State Minister for Higher Education from June 2006 to February 2009.
Jessica Rose Epel Alupo,commonly known as Jessica Alupo,is a Ugandan politician who is the ninth and current vice president of Uganda since 2021. She is also an educator,and former military officer. She previously served in the cabinet of Uganda as minister of education between 2011 and 2016. She is also an elected member of parliament as Katakwi District's women's representative.
Jenipher Kacha Namuyangu,also Jennifer Namuyangu Byakatonda,but commonly referred to as Jennifer Namuyangu,is a Ugandan politician and environmentalist. She belongs to the National Resistance Movement political party. She is the current Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs in the Prime Minister's Office and former Minister of State for Local Government in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. She previously served as the Minister of State for Water Resources,from 1 June 2006 until 27 May 2011. In the Cabinet reshuffle on 27 May 2011,she was dropped from the cabinet and was replaced by Betty Bigombe. She also served as the elected Member of Parliament for Pallisa District Women's Representative,from 2001 until 2011. In 2010,Pallisa District was split into two,to create Kibuku District. Namuyangu contested for the parliamentary seat of Kibuku County,Kibuku District. She was rigged by Saleh Kamba by a wide margin.
Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire is a Ugandan academic and politician. She is the Chancellor of the Uganda Management Institute. She was minister of education from 1979 to 1980 and again from 2005 to 2011. She also served as the member of parliament representing Mpigi District women in the Ugandan Parliament from 2001 to 2011.

She is the former Cabinet Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister,in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Prior to that,from 1 March 2015 until 6 June 2016,she served as Cabinet Minister for National Security. She was appointed to that position on 1 March 2015,replacing Wilson Muruli Mukasa,who was appointed Minister of Gender and Social Issues. Between 2012 and 2015,she served as the Minister of Gender and Social Issues in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position in 2012. She replaced Syda Bumba,who resigned from Cabinet. Mary Karoro Okurut also serves as the elected Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District Women's Constituency. In the 2020 National resistance movement NRM party flag bearer elections,Karooro lost to Annet Katusiime Mugisha who was elected Bushenyi district woman member of parliament in the 2021 Uganda presidential and parliamentary elections.

Previously,she served as the Cabinet Minister of Kampala Capital City and before that,from 6 June 2016 until 14 December 2019,as the Minister of Lands,Housing and Urban Development in Uganda's cabinet. She is also the incumbent member of parliament representing the Oyam South Constituency in the 11th Parliament.
Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi,is a Ugandan businesswoman and politician. She is the current presidential advisor for Youth and Children Affairs in Uganda. She was appointed to this position on 6 June 2021. She is the former Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016 to 6 June 2021 She is also the Federation of Uganda Football Associations third Vice-President,the first woman to hold that position in Uganda. As well she serves as the Chairperson Commonwealth Youth Ministers Task force voted to that position in 2017.
Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde,also Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde,is a Ugandan educator and politician. She was the State Minister for Primary Education in the Ugandan Cabinet for five years. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016,replacing John Chrysostom Muyingo who became State Minister for Higher Education. She was succeeded by Joyce Moriku.
