The Committee on Government Assurance and Implementation in the Parliament of Uganda

Sylvia Bahireira Tumwekwase, known as Omushaho, is a Ugandan politician, legislator and nurse by profession. She is the woman Member of Parliament for Kamwenge District in the eleventh parliament of Uganda. She was also a member of Uganda's Parliamentary Health Committee from 2021 to 2022 and Government Assurances Committee. [1] [2] [3]

Background and education

Bahireira was born in Kamwenge District in western Uganda in the Tooro Kingdom. [4]

Bahireira graduated from Clarke International University (CIU) with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2012. [4] [5] She graduated with a Masters of Science in Nursing from Uganda Martrys University Nkozi. [5] [4]

Career and work experience

Bahireira served as senior nursing and midwifery officer at Rukungyu Hospital in Kamwenge District. [5] She worked as the acting health officer for Kamwenge District. [4] Bahireira later left government employment and joined a Belgian developing agency as she was pursuing her political goals. In 2020, she contested as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer but she lost to Azairwe Dorothy Kabaraitsya. [4]

In 2021, Bahireira stood for woman member of parliament for Kamwenge district as an independent candidate where she got 38,309 votes and merged as the winner against Azairwe Dorothy Kabaraitsya who had 36,601 votes. [6] [7]

Bahireira served on the committee on Health in the Parliament of Uganda in 2021 to 2022. [2] [8] And also on the Committee on Government Assurance and Implementation in the Parliament of Uganda.

Kiruddu General Hospital, also known as Kiruddu General Referral Hospital, is a hospital in Uganda. It is an urban, public, general hospital. It cost an estimated US$10.3 million plus about $350,000 in supervisory fees to build. The hospital was constructed by the government of Uganda, with funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Nigeria Trust Fund (NTF). The hospital opened to the public on 16 May 2016.

Dorothy Azairwe Nshaija Kabaraitsya is a Ugandan politician of Kamwenge District and an accountant by profession. She is a district woman representative affiliated to the ruling political party of National Resistance Movement in the tenth Parliament of Uganda.

Babungi Josephine Bebona also known as Josephine Babungi Bebona is a Ugandan midwife and woman Member of Parliament for Bundibugyo District as of March 2021 in the 11th parliament of Uganda. She is politically affiliated to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and she has been in the Ugandan parliament since 2016.

Ssinabulya Sylvia Namabidde is a Ugandan politician. She became the Member of Parliament for Mityana district in 2001. She served in the eighth and ninth Parliament of Uganda under the National Resistance Movement political party.
