Synchronized swimming competitions at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara were held from October 18 to October 21, at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center. The winning team, Canada, qualified its country to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain. [1]

Qualifying Criteria

Eight teams and twelve duets will compete. The United States, Canada and hosts Mexico get automatic berths, while the remaining nations had to qualify through regional events. [1]

Synchronized swimming or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by World Aquatics. It has traditionally been a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and LEN introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. From 2024, men will be able to compete in the team event at the Olympics.

Synchronized swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were staged from 15 to 20 August at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center. A total of 104 athletes competed in two medal events, namely the women's duet and the women's team.

The Canadian University Artistic Swimming League, formerly the Canadian University Synchronized Swimming League, is the national governing body of university synchronized swimming in Canada. It was established in the fall of 2001 and was incorporated under the Federal Laws of Canada. The league currently comprises 14 different universities from across the country. CUASL has competitions in solo, duet, and team events. CUASL also provides a competitive novice division for athletes who have never previously competed in synchronized swimming.

Synchronized swimming competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto was held from July 9 to 11 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Due to naming rights the arena will be known as the latter for the duration of the games. The competition was split into two events a duet event and team competition. Due to Pan American Games being scheduled to be held roughly around the same time as the 2015 World Aquatics Championships scheduled for Kazan, Russia, the synchronized swimming events began the day before the opening ceremony.

Jacqueline Simoneau is a Canadian synchronized swimmer.

Beverly Holden is one half of Canada's duet synchronized swimming team that won the bronze medal in the 1955 Pan American Games in Mexico City. This was the first year that synchronized swimming was a medal event in the Pan Am Games, having been a demonstration event in Buenos Aires in 1951. McKnight and Diane Ferguson competed in numerous events including the British Empire & Commonwealth Games where it was also a demonstration sport. The duet won the Ontario Duet and Canadian Duet Championships in 1954. Originally coached by Jimmy Bishop at the Granite Club in Toronto, they moved to the Lakeshore Swimming Club after Bishop's death in 1952.

The 13th FINA Synchronized Swimming World Cup was held October 2–5, 2014 in Quebec City, Canada. It featured swimmers from 17 nations, swimming in four events: Duet, Team, Free Combination, and Team Highlights.

Julie Sauvé was a Canadian synchronized swimming coach. Sauvé began her coaching career with the Club Aquatique Montréal Olympique in the 1970s before joining the Canadian synchronized swimming team in 1982. She continued to coach at the Club Aquatique Montréal Olympique until she was fired in 1993. While with the Canadian synchronized swimming team, Sauvé coached Olympic medallists Sylvie Fréchette, Penny Vilagos and Vicky Vilagos. After leaving the Canadian team in 2012, Sauvé coached the synchronized swimming teams of Brazil and Singapore during the remainder of the 2010s. Sauvé was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2012.

Sylvie Fortier is a Canadian former synchronized swimmer. She won medals in Canadian provincial and national competitions, at the World Aquatics Championships, the Pan American Games and the Pan Pacific Games. Fortier was named the 1976 world champion in synchronized swimming for her achievements that year and was a torch bearer for the opening ceremony of the Montreal Summer Olympics. She retired in 1977 aged just 18. Fortier is an inductee of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the Aquatics Hall of Fame.

The diving competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile are scheduled to take place from October 26 to 30, 2023 at the Aquatics Centre. It will be one of four aquatic sports at the Games, along with swimming and artistic swimming.
