TCDD DE18100 are a type of diesel-electric road switcher built for operations on Turkish State Railways by Matériel de Traction Electrique. Based on the same platform and order as the DE24000, it was a light-axle version of the locomotive, very similar to the DE18000, though with a different wheel arrangement. The units have mostly been used around Izmir. They previously pulled Denizli-İzmir regional trains. Now they are used in shunting operations along with TCDD DE24000. DE 18 105 and DE 18 110 are the only remaining running units, DE 18 103 is revised from DE 18 003, all others are scrapped.

TCDD DE24000 class of 418 Turkish diesel locomotives

TCDD DE 24000(stylised as DE 24 000 in painted registration numbers) is a type of diesel locomotive built for operations on Turkish State Railways (TCDD) by Tülomsaş. 218 units were built between 1970-84 under license from Matériel de Traction Electrique (MTE) of France. The DE 24000 formed the backbone of the dieselisation of the Turkish railways during the 1970s. It follows the hood unit road switcher design, like most Turkish mainline locomotives. DE 24 000 is the most commonly found locomotive class in Turkey.

High-speed rail in Turkey

The Turkish State Railways started building high-speed railways in 2003. The first section of the line, between Ankara and Eskişehir, was inaugurated on 13 March 2009. It is a part of the 533 km (331 mi) Istanbul to Ankara high-speed rail line. Yüksek Hızlı Tren is the sole commercial service of high-speed trains in Turkey.

TCDD E14000


TCDD E14000 is an electric multiple unit used by the Turkish State Railways on their commuter rail services around Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. The 75 units were delivered starting in 1979 to supplement the aging E8000 units that were in use on the European Istanbul service, when the other commuter train services were electrified.

TCDD DE18000 are a type of diesel-electric locomotive built for operations on Turkish State Railways by Matériel de Traction Electrique. The order was a trial for a ligher version of the DE24000, and only five units were delivered. The units were mostly used around Izmir and are now retired.

TCDD HT65000

TCDD HT65000 is a series of twelve high-speed electric multiple units built by the Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) of Spain for the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), The EMUs are used on the Turkish high-speed railway network and can reach a maximum commercial speed of 250 km/h.

Menemen railway station railway station in İzmir

Menemen railway station is a railway station at Menemen in Izmir Province, Turkey. The station is served by the Turkish State Railways, the national rail carrier of Turkey. The station is serviced by six trains daily. Northbound trains go to either Bandırma, Ankara, Afyon or Uşak and southbound trains all go to Alsancak Terminal in İzmir. North of the station, the double track branch line to Aliağa splits from the main line. The original station was built in 1866 by the Smyrna Cassaba Railway.

Basmane railway station is an intercity and regional railway terminal and rapid transit station in İzmir, Turkey. Along with Alsancak station, Basmane is one of two railway terminals in the city. All TCDD Taşımacılık trains terminate at this station, with intercity service to Ankara, Bandırma and Konya as well as regional service to Denizli, Söke, Tire and Ödemiş. The name originated from the Turkish phrase Basma hane.

Çiğli railway station is a railway station in İzmir, Turkey. The station is within the Çiğli district of the city and is a stop for all trains on the line. İZBAN operates commuter trains north to Aliağa and Menemen and south to Alsancak and Tepeköy. TCDD Taşımacılık operates seven trains, five intercity and two regional, to Eskişehir, Bandırma, Balıkesir, Soma, Uşak and Alaşehir.

The Basmane-Ödemiş Regional is a regional rail service operated by the Turkish State Railways. The trains run between Basmane Terminal in İzmir and the town of Ödemiş, 113km to the south-east.

Uşak railway station

Uşak railway station is a railway station in Uşak, Turkey and is the only station within the city. TCDD Taşımacılık operates a daily inter-city train from İzmir to Konya and a daily regional train to İzmir.

Freight rail transport in Turkey

The Turkish State Railways operate freight trains on all of their lines. TCDD has a big fleet of covered goods wagons, flat wagons, tank wagons, open wagons and hoppers. TCDD also has a few schnabel cars and crane cars. TCDD carries freight such as bulk, shipping containers, liquids and goods.

Taurus Express

The Taurus Express is a passenger train operating daily between Konya and Adana. In the past it was a premier overnight passenger train operated by Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits between İstanbul and Baghdad. After 1972, passengers could travel down to Basra via connection to the Express 2 made at Baghdad Central Station. However, service was suspended in 2003, due to the outbreak of war in Iraq. In 2012, the State Railways renewed service between Eskişehir and Adana and will once again service İstanbul when track work in the city is complete. There is a chance that the train may continue to its former terminus in Baghdad in the future, but the possibility remains low for the time being.

Yüksek Hızlı Tren

Yüksek Hızlı Tren or YHT is the high-speed rail service of the Turkish State Railways, currently operating on two lines: Ankara to Istanbul via Eskişehir and Ankara to Konya via Polatlı. YHT is the only high-speed rail service in Turkey, with trains operating at speeds of up to 250 km/h (HT65000) or 300 km/h (HT80000).

Karesi Express

The Karesi Express(Turkish: Karesi Ekspresi) is an overnight train, operating between Alsancak Terminal, İzmir and Central Station, Ankara. The train is one of two current train services between İzmir and Ankara. The eastbound journey takes about 14 hours and 16 minutes, while the westbound journey takes about 14 hours and 45 minutes. The Karesi Express services 6 provincial capitals: İzmir, Manisa, Balıkesir, Kütahya, Eskişehir and Ankara.

Alpu railway station

Alpu station is a railway station on the Istanbul-Ankara railway in the town of Alpu. The station was formerly served by many passenger trains running along the railway from Istanbul and Izmir towards Ankara and points beyond, but since the opening of the Istanbul-Ankara high-speed railway in 2013, all conventional passenger trains between Istanbul and Ankara were replaced by YHT high-speed service, which runs just south of the town along its own right-of-way. The only passenger train serving the station is the Izmir Blue Train operating daily from Izmir to Ankara.

Aegean Express

The Aegean Express, numbered as B31, is a passenger train operating daily between Alsancak Terminal in İzmir to Balıkesir. The train operates as a local service on the route, calling at more stations than its counterpart, the Karesi Express; which also operates between İzmir and Balıkesir.

TCDD Taşımacılık

TCDD Taşımacılık A.Ş. is a government-owned railway company responsible for the operations of most passenger and freight rail in Turkey. The company was formed on 14 June 2016, splitting off from the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) to take over railway operations, while TCDD would continue to administer railway infrastructure. TCDD Taşımacılık officially began operations on 1 January 2017.

The Basmane-Alaşehir Regional, numbered B36, is a 168 km (104 mi) long regional passenger train operated by the Turkish State Railways, running from Basmane Terminal in İzmir to the town of Alaşehir. The train operates daily in each direction. Scheduled journey time is 3 hours and 2 minutes. In current operation practice, one roundtrip between Alaşehir and Basmane and back, followed by one roundtrip between Alaşehir and Manisa and back, is performed in a day.
