Taebaeksan,also known as Mount Taebaeksan or Mount Taebaek,is a South Korean mountain with several important peaks of the Taebaek mountain range (in Western-style geography),or the Taebaek Jeongmaek Range (in Korean-style geography). It is an important mountain in the Baekdu-daegan mountain range,the point where it turns west after running along Korea's east coast for a long distance. Its territory stretches from the city of Taebaek in Yeongwol-gun County,Gangwon-do Province to Bonghwa-gun County,Gyeongsangbuk-do Province,and it was designated South Korea's 22nd national park on 22 August 2016. It has an elevation of 1,566.7 m (5,140 ft). [1]
Manggyeongsa Temple in Hyeol-dong Taebaek,Yeongwol-gun County,Gangwon-do Province at an elevation of 1,460 meters on Taebaeksan,is a temple built to enshrine the statue of the Bodhisattva of wisdom. It was built by Jajang,a Silla Dynasty monk. The "Dragon Spring" at the entrance of the temple is known as the highest spring in South Korea. [2]
The summit ridge of Taebaeksan is home to a multitude of both azalea bushes and ancient yew trees,making spring (for blossoms) and winter (for rime frost on the twisted trees) particularly good times to visit. The highest peaks are also home to Cheonjedan,a series of ancient Shamanist altars.
The main Danggol entrance plays host to an annual snow festival and a coal mining museum.
Gangwon State is a Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea and the least densely populated subdivision of the country. Mount Kumgang or the Kumgang Mountains is a mountain massif,with a 1,638-metre-high (5,374 ft) peak,in Kangwon-do,North Korea. The Sobaek Mountains are a mountain range cutting across the southern Korean peninsula. They split off from the Taebaek Mountains and trend southwest across the center of the peninsula. They are traditionally considered to reach their southwestern limit at Jirisan,which,at an elevation of 1,915 meters,is also the highest peak of the range. Other famous mountains in the range include Songni Mountain,Joryeong Mountain,Gaya Mountain,Worak Mountain,and Sobaek Mountain itself. The peaks of the Sobaek Mountains are generally well over 1,000 m above sea level.

Odaesan,also known as Mount Odae-san or Mount Odae,is a major cluster of mountains and national park in eastern Gangwon Province,South Korea,standing at the junction of Gangneung City,Pyeongchang County and Hongcheon County. It stands at the junction of the Taebaek Mountains and the Charyeong Mountains,a spur range stretching to the west and serving to divide the South Han River / Namhan River from the North Han River / Bukhan River. It stands just to the south of Seoraksan and north of Dutasan along the Baekdu-daegan Mountain-system mainline,the range of granite peaks that make up the symbolic spine of the Korean Peninsula,but its peaks are more rounded and forested than most. National Highway 6 runs through the park,between the south main-entrance and the northeast corner descending to the east coast. It contain five main peaks surrounding a deep main valley running north to south,and several other subsidiary peaks,such as Noin-bong,with gorges between,a watershed forming a river leaving this area to the south. Just outside the western boundary of the national park area,another mountain Gyebang-san rises to 1,577 m (5,174 ft),higher than conventional Odae-san's summit,and they are connected by a 10 km long ridge;it is controversial whether or not to include this within the cluster or consider it as separate.

O-Train was a South Korean sightseeing train operated by Korail. The train began operations in 2013 and transports tourists from Seoul,in a circular route,through South Korea's central inland region and back to Seoul.

He remains a well-known authority on Korean spiritual traditions of all kinds,especially about his core topic the Sansin deity and their shrines found throughout Korea called Sansin-gak,integral parts of Korean Buddhist temples,Korean Shamanism and village life. He is also an expert on the Baekdu-daegan mountain range and Korea's national parks,having visited all 20 as of 2011.
