Taekwondo made its debut as an Asian Para Games sport during the 2022 version of the games, held in Hangzhou, China. [1] [2] 77 fighters from 17 nations took part in the competition, fighting in ten weight categories. [1] Competitors qualified under the K44 designation, which includes athletes with unilateral arm amputation or similar imparemnet, or loss of toes affecting the ability to lift the heel. [3]
Before the tournament, Uzbekistan, Iran and Mongolia were favourites to win medals. [1] By the end of the tournament, Iran had won the most medals, followed by China and Uzbekistan, with Mongolia coming fourth. Nepal’s Palesha Goverdhan claimed her country’s first ever international medal in Taekwondo, winning a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg class. [4]
In the men’s K44 58kg final, Taiwan’s Xiao Xiang-wen defeated Japan’s Mitsuya Tanaka by 27-11. [3]
In the men’s K44 63kg final Mongolia’s Ganbat Bolor-Erdene defeated Iran’s Saeid Sadeghianpour by 6-2. [5]
In the men’s K44 70kg final, Iran’s Mehdi Pourrahnama defeated China’s Shihe Chen by 16-3. [6]
In the men’s K44 80kg final, Korea’s Joo Jeong-hun defeated Iran’s Alireza Bakht.
In the men’s K44 +80kg final, Iran’s Hamed Haghshenas defeated Kazakhstan’s Nyshan Omirali.
In the women’s 47kg final, Thailand’s Khwansuda Phuangkitcha defeated Uzbekistan’s Ziyodakhon Isakova by 7-4. [7]
In the women’s 52kg final, China’s Shao Qian defeated Mongolia’s Surenjav Ulambayar. [8]
In the women’s 57kg final, Roza Ebrahimi defeated Kazakhstan’s Kamilya Dosmalova by 34-15. [9]

The Asian Para Games, also known as Para Asiad, is a multi-sport event regulated by the Asian Paralympic Committee that's held every four years after every Asian Games for athletes with physical disabilities. Both events had adopted the strategy used by the Olympic and Paralympic Games of having both games in the same city. However, the exclusion of Asian Para Games from Asian Games host city contract meant that both events ran independently of each other. The Games are recognized by the International Paralympic Committee and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Paralympic Games.
The 2022 Asian Games (2022年亚洲运动会), officially the 19th Asian Games (第十九届亚洲运动会) and also known as Hangzhou 2022 (杭州2022), were a continental multi-sport event which was held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The games marked the 110th anniversary since the creation of the first continental event, starting with the 1913 Far Eastern Championship Games.

The 2022 Asian Para Games, also known as the 4th Asian Para Games and commonly known as the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, were a multi-sport event that paralleled the 2022 Asian Games which was held for Asian athletes with disabilities in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from 22 to 28 October 2023. Hangzhou was the second Chinese city to host the Asian Para Games, after Guangzhou in 2010.
