The Asian Para Games, also known as Para Asiad, is a multi-sport event regulated by the Asian Paralympic Committee that's held every four years after every Asian Games for athletes with physical disabilities. Both events had adopted the strategy used by the Olympic and Paralympic Games of having both games in the same city. However, the exclusion of Asian Para Games from Asian Games host city contract meant that both events run independently of each other. The Games are recognized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Paralympic Games.
People's Republic of China first competed at the Asian Para Games in 2010. China has led the gold medal count in each Asian Games since 2010 Asian Games. At the Asian Para Games in 2010, Yuqing Cai won the first gold medal for China in Women's 400m freestyle -S9 final. Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, China will host the fourth edition of the Asian Para Games in October 2023.

To avoid a clash of dates with the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men's Olympic Qualification Tournaments, the men's tournament was allocated to the first week of the Games and started 4 days before the Opening Ceremonies. It was held in Hangzhou, China from 19 to 26 September 2023.

The winners secure a ticket to the 2024 Summer Paralympics. Iran were the defending champions and successfully defended their title triumphing over Bosnia and Herzegovina in straight sets.

The tournament was held in the Kazakh capital of Astana, at the Jekpe-Jek Sports Centre. The winners of the men's tournament was Iran's men, while China won the women's event.
Cambodia is scheduled to compete at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from 22 October 2023 to 28 October 2023.
