Tahiti, which is a part of French Polynesia, competed in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games on the behalf of French Polynesia which was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. [1]

Tahiti Largest island of French Polynesia

Tahiti is the largest island of the Windward group of the Society Islands in French Polynesia, located in the central part of the Pacific Ocean. Divided into two parts, Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Iti, the island was formed from volcanic activity; it is high and mountainous with surrounding coral reefs. Its population is 189,517 inhabitants (2017), making it the most populous island of French Polynesia and accounting for 68.7% of its total population.

2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games

The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games, was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017. It became the third city in the former Soviet countries to win the right of hosting an Olympic Council of Asia-sanctioned event, following Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan, which jointly-hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games. The host city was chosen in Kuwait on 19 December 2010. On 6 July 2013 the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia was officially handed over to the mayor of the city of Ashgabat.

Tahiti sent a delegation consisting of 23 competitors for the multi-sport event. The competitors couldn't receive any medal in the competition.

Tahiti made its first appearance in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games for the first time (probably this was also the first instance where Tahiti as a separate nation competed in an international multi-sport event) along with other Oceania nations.

Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games

The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, also known as AIMAG, is a pancontinental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia, after the merger of the Asian Indoor Games and the Asian Martial Arts Games. The Games have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are described as the second largest Asian multi-sport event after the Asian Games.
