Talas Complex Nature Reserve is a reserve located in Bakay-Ata District and Talas District of Talas Province of Kyrgyzstan. It was established in 1986 to conserve and rehabilitate remarkable landscapes and unique nature complexes in floodplain forests of Talas River basin. The reserve occupies 2511 hectares.

The backbone of this reserve and the province, the river Talas was formed at the confluence of the Karakol and Uch-Koshoy. It flows west into Kazakhstan. [1]

Talas (river)

The Talas is a river that rises in the Talas Region of Kyrgyzstan and flows west into Kazakhstan. It is formed from the confluence of the Karakol and Uch-Koshoy. It runs through the city of Taraz in Zhambyl Province of Kazakhstan and vanishes in the Muyunkum Desert before reaching Lake Aydyn. The river is 661 kilometres (411 mi) long and has a basin area of 52,700 square kilometres (20,300 sq mi).

Talas Alatau

The Talas Ala-Too or Alataw range is range of the Tian Shan mountains forming the southern and eastern border of Talas Region of Kyrgyzstan. Its western end extends into Kazakhstan, and its south-western end joins the Pskem Mountains and Ugam Range of Uzbekistan. Its eastern end joins the Kirgiz Alatau mountains. To the north is the Talas River valley, and, to the south, Jalal-Abad Region. The highest point is Mount Manas (4484m) near the Uzbek border. There are four major passes along the range. Ötmök pass is the road entrance from the east. The main road from Bishkek to Osh enters from the east over the Ala-Bel pass, passes through the Chychkan State Zoological Reserve and then turns south over another pass into Jalal-Abad province. The Kara-Buura pass (road) and Terek pass lead south into Jalal-Abad provinces.

Besh-Tash State Nature National Park

Beshtash Nature Park is a nature park in Talas Region, Kyrgyzstan. located 13 km from the city of Talas. Established in 1996, it occupies 13,650 hectares including 5557 hectares of strictly protected area, 2257 hectares of area for regulated recreational use, and 5836 hectares of area for regulated economic activity It surrounds the Besh Tash River.

The Surmatash Nature Reserve is located in Kadamjay District of Batken Province of Kyrgyzstan. It was established in 2009 with a purpose of conservation of unique nature complexes and biological diversity, protection of rare and threatened species of flora and fauna, and extending network of specially protected nature areas.

The Protected areas of Kyrgyzstan cover 1,476,121.6 hectares and account for 7.38% of the country's total area (2017). The first protected area in Kyrgyzstan was established in 1948. According to the Government Decree on Priorities of Conservation of Biological Diversity and the relevant Action Plan for 2014-2024 the target area for the protected areas in Kyrgyzstan is 10 percent of the country’s area by 2024.
