Talke Pits is a village [1] in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, England, close to the Cheshire border and the village of Talke. [2] The nature reserve Parrot's Drumble is adjacent to the village.
Talke Pits grew around the coal pits and mines in the region. The village was notable for the 1866 mining disaster at the Talke of the Hill colliery explosion, which resulted in the death of 91 miners.
Another coal mining disaster occurred at the nearby Bunkers Hill colliery in 1875, which resulted in the deaths of 41 miners. [3]
The village is mostly a residential village, with a few small shops and businesses. A very notable business in the village is the "Affinity Staffordshire" shopping outlet. [4] [5]
The village is served by neighbouring Talke's parish church, St Martin's Church. [6]
The village is served by regular bus services to Audley, Biddulph, Kidsgrove, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent. [7]
