Talmine is a crofting and fishing township, overlooking Talmine Bay, an inlet on the western shore of Tongue Bay [1] in northern Sutherland, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. The Reaper, an old fishing boat located within the bay. She can be seen in the photo to the right, on the beach, underneath/between the stone building and blue car roughly centre image.

The township is located 2 miles from the nearest main road, the A838 and is about 4 miles from Tongue, the nearest decently sized town. It is located directly north of Midtown and Directly South of Midfield and Achininver. [2]

Tongue Bay is located in northwest Highland, Scotland, in the western part of the former county of Sutherland. Skullomie is a small fishing and crofting hamlet at the head of the bay, while Melness is a group of crofting townships west of it. Talmine, a crofting and fishing township, is situated on Talmine Bay, an inlet on the western shore of Tongue Bay. The Rabbit Islands are three, uninhabited islands across from the bay; Eilean nan Ròn is at its mouth. From Tongue Bay, the coast extends to the northwest and the east. In general, it is high and rocky, and is intersected by several small creeks. Rocks along the coast are hollowed into caves, or formed into arches and pillars. The tides follow the direction of the coast nearly from east to west. The Shamrock, a 19th-century sloop located within the bay, is protected by Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, as is Scullomie Harbour, also within the bay.

Loch Merkland is a large long inland loch in Sutherland, Northern Scotland. It is located adjacent to the A838 main road which provides almost all access to the Loch and the Merkland Lodge to the south of it. There are many trails and hiking paths in the area, as per usual in the highlands of Scotland. On the Banks just above the Lodge there's also Merkland Cottage meaning there are residents around the Loch.
