Tawanta is an unincorporated community in Jones County, in the U.S. state of Mississippi. [1]
Tawanta was founded in 1882. [1] The name "Tawanta" is purported to mean "wide, broad" in the Choctaw language. [2] The community was once a flag station and is located on the Norfolk Southern Railway. [3]

The Mississippi River is the second-longest river and chief river of the second-largest drainage system in North America, second only to the Hudson Bay drainage system. Stone County was formed from the northern portion of Harrison County on June 5, 1916. The county was named for John M.
