The second election to Tayside Regional Council was held on 2 May 1978 as part of the wider 1978 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Conservatives maintain their control of the region, gaining an absolute majority.

Angus is one of the 32 local government council areas of Scotland, a registration county and a lieutenancy area. The council area borders Aberdeenshire, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross. Main industries include agriculture and fishing. Global pharmaceuticals company GSK has a significant presence in Montrose in the north of the county.
Tayside was one of the nine regions used for local government in Scotland from 15 May 1975 to 31 March 1996. The region was named for the River Tay.
Alasdair Neil Morgan is a Scottish politician. He was Depute Leader of the Scottish National Party from 1990–91 and a served as the Member of Parliament for Galloway and Upper Nithsdale from 1997-2001. He was elected in 1999 as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for Galloway and Upper Nithsdale. From 2003-2011, he served as a member for the South of Scotland region.

Tayside Police was a territorial police force covering the Scottish council areas of Angus, City of Dundee and Perth and Kinross until 1 April 2013, at which point it was subsumed into Police Scotland. The total area covered by the force was 2,896 square miles (7,500 km2) with a population of 388,000. The force operated from 27 police stations and has an establishment of 1078 police officers, 151 special constables and 594 support staff, as of February 2008. Tayside Police was Scotland's fourth-largest police force.

Dundee North End Football Club are a Scottish junior football club based in the city of Dundee. Formed in 1895 and nicknamed the Dokens, they play their home games at North End Park which has room for around 2,000 spectators and is within the vicinity of the grounds of both Dundee and Dundee United. Their strip (uniform) colours are maroon and white.

Tayside Fire and Rescue Service was, between 1975 and 2013, the statutory fire and rescue service for the area of Tayside in Scotland. It was amalgamated into the single Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in 2013.
Mervyn J. Rolfe CBE was the Provost and Lord Lieutenant of the City of Dundee from 1996 to 1999. During this period he chaired the Dundee City of Discovery Campaign which launched the Dundee International Book Prize in 1996 and won the Scottish Marketing Awards Grand Prix in 1999 for promion of the image of Dundee.
Regional elections were held in Scotland on Thursday 8 May 1986, under the terms of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. The previous elections had been held in 1982. The elections took place a year before the Conservative's third general election victory. Elections took place in England and Wales on the same day.
Tayside House was an office block development in the city centre area of Dundee. The building served as the headquarters for Tayside Regional Council and its successor organisation following local government reorganisation, Dundee City Council. Tayside Police leased part of the building, this formed the city centre police station.
Dundee Synagogue in Dundee, Scotland is the place of worship of the Tayside and Fife Jewish Community, which was established in 1878 under its former name of the Dundee Hebrew Congregation. The synagogue building, designed by Ian Imlach, is located on St Mary Place. It was opened in 1978 to replace the former synagogue building at 15 Meadow Street that was demolished in 1973.
The fourth election to Tayside Regional Council was held on 8 May 1986 as part of the wider 1986 Scottish regional elections. The election saw the Conservatives losing control of the region, with Labour emerging as the single largest force on the 47 seat council. Following the election Labour Party formed a minority administration. Ian Mackie CBE, the chair of the Conservative Group, was defeated in Clepington-Maryfield ward.
