Teluk Mahkota (also known by its former name Jason's Bay or JB [1] ) is a bay and tourism attraction in Sedili, Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia. [2]
It faces the South China Sea and has a width of approximately 12 km. The bay is situated about 28 km northeast of the town of Kota Tinggi.
At the northern end of the bay is the mouth of Sedili Besar River, flanked on the south bank by the village of Tanjung Sedili and on the north bank by the village of Sedili Besar.
At the southern end of the bay is the mouth of the smaller Sungai Sedili Kechil river and the village of Kampung Sedili Kechil.
The region of the bay is also known locally as Sedili.
The bay was in colonial times known as Jason Bay or Jason's Bay, but was subsequently renamed Teluk Mahkota. The word "teluk" is the geographical term for bay in the Malay language. The word "mahkota" means "crown" [3] in the Malay language and is probably a reference to Tunku Abdul Rahman (Tunku Mahkota of Johor) who was the "Tunku Mahkota" or Crown Prince of Johor from 1961 to 1981.
Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail was the 24th Sultan of Johor and the 4th Sultan of Modern Johor. He succeeded his father Sultan Ismail upon the latter's death on 10 May 1981. He was the eighth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 26 April 1984 to 25 April 1989. Sultan Iskandar's reign lasted for almost 29 years until his death in January 2010. His children are married into the different royal houses of Malaysia. His eldest daughter Tunku Kamariah, the Tengku Puan Laksamana, married the Tengku Laksamana of Selangor, Tengku Sulaiman Shah. His successor and eldest son Sultan Ibrahim married Raja Zarith Sofiah of the Perak Royal Family. His daughter Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah married the heir apparent of Pahang, now Sultan Abdullah. His younger son Tunku Abdul Majid married a member of the Kedah Royal Family, Tunku Teh Mazni.
