The Terai–Madhesh Loktantrik Party (Nepali : तराई-मधेस लोकतान्त्रिक पार्टी (तमलोपा)) is a political party in Nepal. [1] Although the party's primary base is still in Terai Madhesh of Madhesh Province only, it has tried to expand its throughout Terai and Tharuhath regions of Nepal. [2]
The party was officially registered at Election Commission on 13 December 2021. [3] Brikhesh Chandra Lal is the chairman of the party and former member of constituent assembly, Bijay Kumar Singh is the senior leader of the party. [4]
The party was officially registered on 3 December 2021 for the second time under the name. [5]
Later it was reported that senior leaders Brikhesh Chandra Lal and Bijay Kumar Singh had played role in registering the party under the chairmanship of Ravi Shankar Karna (Subhash). [2] Karna who previously served as the deputy chairman of student's union of old Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party. Similarly leader Lal and Singh were active as central committee member of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Nepal. They were also the founding leader of previously Mahantha Thakur led Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (Defunct). They had left Nepali Congress along with Thakur to form the party. [6]
On 22 February 2021, hundreds of party caders and leaders from Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Nepal led by Lal and Dr Singh joined the party. [7] Among them were Ramji Ray, Dhirendra Bahadur Singh, Satis Lal Das, Yogendra Rai, Umesh Mandal and Mohammad Asgar Ali. [8] This created a huge loss to former party organization in Dhanusha and Mahottari district. [7]
The party won several seats in eastern terai and won several ward chairs in Janakpur, Mahottari rural municipality and other munucipalities. Similarly, the party won chairperson of Mahottari Rural Municipality which lies in Mahottari 3 which remains the election concituency of Mahantha Thakur. [9] This was seen as a major success of the party as the party was able to divert traditional vote bank of Janata Samajwadi Party and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party ending their monopoly in the Madhesh province. Upendra Yadav is a Nepalese politician who has twice served as Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal and also as the chairman of the People's Socialist Party, Nepal from 2020 until 2023.
The Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party was a political party in Nepal, formed by former Minister and Nepali Congress national treasurer Mahantha Thakur. The party was once the biggest Madhesh-based party with a strong base in the Terai region of Nepal. The foundation of the party was announced on December 27, 2007. The party was founded by Thakur with a popular slogan "Mare to Mukti, jiye to Madhesh" meaning if I will live, I will fight for Madhesh and if I will get salvation. The party had four members in the interim parliament, including Thakur.
The Terai Madhesh Sadbhavana Party Nepal was a political party in Nepal from 2013 to 2017. It was led by Mahendra Raya Yadav. It was formed through the merger of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party Nepal, a splinter group of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party and Rastriya Sadbhavana Party, a splinter group of Sadbhavana Party.

Mahantha Thakur, is a Nepalese politician and president of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, as well as the former treasurer of Nepali Congress Party. He has served as minister in various ministries, including Ministry of Science and Technology while in Nepali Congress.

Jay Prakash Gupta, also referred to as Jay Prakash Anand or popularly JP Gupta, is a Nepalese politician and former member of the Madhesi Jana Adhikar Forum, Nepal(Republican) party. He born in Saptari District, Nepal. Before joining forum, he was a member of Nepali Congress. His political career was going very well from this party but he left the party during Madhesh movement. He is presently running Terai Madhesh Rastriya Abhiyan.
The 2021 split in the People's Socialist Party, Nepal (PSP-N) was a factional dispute amongst the leadership over party control beginning in May and culminating in July, with the faction led by former Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav succeeding over the faction of former First Chairman Mahantha Thakur. The dispute was settled as a result of a decision of the Election Commission, which handed control to Yadav's faction, forcing the departure of the Thakur faction from the PSP-N and requiring the formation of a new party.

The 2nd Madhesh Provincial Assembly was elected through the provincial elections held on 20 November 2022. The assembly has 64 constituency seats in which members are elected through direct elections and 43 proportional representation party list seats. The term of the assembly is 5 years unless dissolved earlier. The first session of the assembly started from 2 January 2023.
