Champaign County is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2010 census, the population was 40,097. Its county seat is Urbana. The county takes its name from the French word for "open level country".

History

Terre Haute was laid out and platted in 1836. [2] The community was so named on account of its lofty elevation, Terre Haute being a name derived from the French meaning "high ground". [2] A post office called Terre Haute was established in 1846, and discontinued in 1900. [3]
