The sixth season of The Great Canadian Baking Show premiered on CBC Television on October 2, 2022. [1] As with previous seasons, ten amateur bakers will compete over eight weeks of challenges, vying for the title. Ann Pornel and Alan Shane Lewis return for their third season as hosts. Bruno Feldeisen and Kyla Kennaley return for their sixth and fourth seasons respectively as judges.

For their first signature challenge, the bakers were given two hours to create a dozen friand cakes with a nut flour of their choice. For the technical challenge, the bakers had an hour and 45 minutes to make a Bolo de rolo, a Brazilian dessert, consisting of thin layers of dough wrapped with a layer of guava paste. For the showstopper, the bakers had three hours and 45 minutes to make a Kawaii cake - a cake decorated using the Japanese Kawaii trend. [3]

For their second signature challenge, the bakers were given two hours to create twelve meringue bars with a cookie base, a choice of filling and a meringue top. For the technical challenge, the bakers had two hours to make 36 Alfajores, with a thick gooey layer of dulce de leche, sandwiched between two cookies. The contestants had to make 2 versions, 18 chocolate alfajores and 18 vanilla alfajores. For the showstopper, the bakers had four hours to make a fairytale scene made out of cookies. [4]

For their third signature challenge, the bakers were given one hour and 45 minutes to bake a flatbread with a filling of their choice. For the technical challenge the bakers had two hours to make a Swedish Tea Ring, a sweet yeasted dough flavoured with cinnamon and cardamom, filled with raisins and twisted into a ring. [5] For the showstopper the bakers had four hours to create "a bread work of art inspired by any artist, style or movement." [6]

For their fourth signature challenge, the bakers were given one hour and 45 minutes to bake a dozen pressed flower sandwich cookies. For the technical challenge the bakers had one hour and 45 minutes to make 16 Chebakia, pastry made of strips of dough rolled to resemble a rose, deep-fried until golden, then coated with a syrup made of honey and orange blossom water and sprinkled with sesame. For the showstopper, the bakers had four hours to create an illusion cake, inspired by botanical themes. [7]

For their Signature Challenge, the six remaining bakers were given two hours 15 minutes to make eight chocolate-centric ice cream sandwiches showcasing homemade ice cream between two soft cookies, featuring any flavour they see like, as long as chocolate has a starring role. In the Technical challenge, they had to recreate Kyla's favourite cake, sacher torte, the famed Viennese specialty with two layers of chocolate sponge, a layer of apricot jam, and a shiny dark chocolate glaze, all in two hours 15 minutes. In the Showstopper, they had three hours 15 minutes to create a 3D chocolate reveal, with a hidden dessert cloaked in a chocolate shell. [8]

For the Signature Challenge the five remaining bakers are given two hours to make eight Hungarian Chimney Cakes or Kürtőskalács. These are coiled pastries rolled in a sweet topping then baked. Traditionally chimney cakes are baked over a spit and are hollow but the bakers are required to include a yummy filling of their choice. In the Technical Challenge they had two hours to create a Mango Rose Tart, [9] composed of a crumbly shortcut pastry, a tangy mango curd, and luscious creme diplomat. Topping the tart are freshly sliced mangoes arranged in a rose pattern and mango caviar. This is a modern take on a classic French Tarte Aux Pommes. For the Showstopper, they had four hours to make a baklava [10] tower. A popular Middle Eastern dessert, baklava is a gooey, nutty multi-layer pastry made with phyllo. The bakers must make their own phyllo dough and create two types of baklava for their towers.

For the Signature Challenge, the four remaining bakers were given two hours to make ten mochi donuts. In the Technical Challenge, they had two hours to create a sans rival , a Filipino take on a dacquoise, using cashews instead of hazelnuts. For the Showstopper, they had four and a half hours to make a Jelly Art Cake, featuring personalized art encased in transparent gelatin as part of a cake with traditional layers of sponge, mousse, and ganache. In the Signature Challenge, the bakers were given two hours and 15 minutes to create a Paris-brest, with their choice of either sweet or savoury flavours and fillings. In the Technical Challenge, they had two and a half hours to make a cassata siciliana , a sponge cake with ricotta and chocolate chip filling, decorated with trapezoidal pistachio marzipan, royal icing, and topped with candied fruit. [12] For the final Showstopper, the bakers had to create a garden party dessert centrepiece, composed of at least three bakes, within four and a half hours. [13]

The second series of The Great British Bake Off started 14 August 2011 with twelve amateur bakers. Unlike series one, the competition was held in a single location – the grounds of Valentines Mansion, a 17th-century mansion house in Redbridge. In addition to their on-screen presenting, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins also took over the narration, which had been done by Stephen Noonan for the previous series. Series two also introduced the "star baker" award for the most impressive performer each week.
The first season of The Great Australian Bake Off premiered on 9 July 2013 on the Nine Network, and saw ten home bakers take part in a bake-off to test their baking skills as they battled to be crowned The Great Australian Bake Off's best amateur baker. The season consisted of 8 episodes. Each episode saw bakers put through three challenges, with each episode having its own theme or discipline. The season aired from 9 July 2013 until 27 August 2013, and saw Nancy Ho win. The season was hosted by Anna Gare and Shane Jacobson, and was judged by Dan Lepard and Kerry Vincent.
The seventh series of The Great British Bake Off aired from 24 August 2016, with twelve contestants competing to be crowned the series 7 winner.
The eighth series of The Great British Bake Off began on 29 August 2017, with this being the first of The Great British Bake Off to be broadcast on Channel 4, after the production company Love Productions moved the show from BBC One. It is the first series for new hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, and new judge Prue Leith.
The second season of The Great American Baking Show begun December 1, 2016 with a two-hour premiere on ABC. This is the first season to air under its current name, dropping the "holiday" title. Ten amateur bakers competed in an eight-week competition for the title of America's best amateur baker.

This series saw a few changes to the usual format: the first episode being Biscuit Week, the documentary inserts were dropped, and the finale included the competitors doing a technical challenge outside the tent for the first time.

The Great Canadian Holiday Baking Show is a Christmas special edition of The Great Canadian Baking Show. Episodes have featured bakers from previous seasons of The Great Canadian Baking Show competing in season baking challenges to be named "Star Holiday Baker". Four episodes of The Great Canadian Holiday Baking Show have aired, in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively.

The series was filmed at Welford Park, an estate near Newbury, Berkshire which was previously used for the programme from 2014 to 2019.

The fifth season of The Great Kiwi Bake Off return to Parihoa Farm in Muriwai, Auckland. This season premiered on Thursday 25 January 2024 at 7.30pm on TVNZ 1 and streams on TVNZ+. As with the previous season, it was hosted by comedians Pax Assadi and Hayley Sproull, with the judges being Peter Gordon, Jordan Rondel, and - for episode 3 - New Zealand TV chef and restaurateur Michael Van de Elzen.
