The Invasion is the fifth studio album by Nigerian duo P-Square. It was released on 29 July 2011 by Square Records. The album features guest appearances from Tiwa Savage, Naeto C, Waje, May D, Eva Alordiah, Muna, Akon and Rick Ross.

Promotion

The duo promoted and celebrated the album by putting together a concert called "The Invasion Concert", which was held at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel in Lagos on 30 July 2011. It featured additional performances from May D, Lynxxx, Eva Alordiah, Muna, 9ice, Ikechuwku, and Bovi.[ citation needed ]

Composition

Musical style

The Invasion is a well-rounded multifaceted album that is composed of R&B, reggae, hip hop, europop and contemporary highlife sounds. "Beautiful Onyinye" and "Forever" are R&B records that cater to R&B lovers, while "Player" and "Jeje" cater to europop lovers. "She's Hot" and "Me and My Brother" are reggae ridims that explore the depths of the reggae music genre. "Shake It Down Low" caters to hip hop lovers who are fans of lyrical content and mesmerizing beats.

Lyrical themes

The album primarily focuses on love, wealth, success, and nightlife. In "Beautiful Onyinye", "Forever" and "She's Hot", P-Square expressed the love, affection and emotional outburst they share with their significant other. In "Chop My Money" and "Me and My Brother", the duo talked about their vast wealth and the blessings that have been bestowed upon them. "Shake It Down Low" and "Do as I Do" celebrate and explore the feelings and excitement of nightlife.

The Invasion was met with mixed reviews from music critics. Many critics felt the album was recycled and lacked originality. Others praised its lyrical content, sound, composure and depth. The album was reviewed by Mix Rhythm, 360 Nobs, Leadership newspaper and Naijaura. The latter of the four assigned a score of 8.5 out of 10, while the former gave the album 3.5 stars out of 5, adding, " it was well packaged in terms of graphics, nice photo shots, lyrics and a captivating album art cover". 360 Nobs gave the album an overall score of 6.1 out of 10, stating that "the invasion is not yet complete". Leadership newspaper gave a rating of 9 out of 10.

P-Square embraced a new musical direction with the desire to assert their full artistic expression. The album's theme incorporates Love, Desire, Betrayal, Regret, Assurance, and Political criticism. Essentially an R&B and pop album, Gameover also covered genres like reggae and hip hop. The album boasts of singles like "No one like you," "Roll it," "Ifunanya," and the lead single "Do Me" - which featured vocals from Waje. The album which sold over 8million copies worldwide, was credited for redefining music videos in the African music industry with the singles "Do Me,” “Temptation remix” and "Roll it". The fifth edition of the Hip Hop World Awards took place on May 16, 2009, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The ceremony was conducted without a host. Wande Coal was the biggest winner of the night with five plaques, including Artiste of the Year. Don Jazzy won the Producer of the Year award. Hip hop duo Skuki won the Next Rated category. Da Grin's C.E.O won for Best Rap Album in a posthumous fashion. He was also honored by General Pype during the singer's performance.

The 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards took place on 31 August 2014, at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The eligibility period was from March 2013 to March 2014. In April 2014, the NEA reviewing committee began collecting submissions for the 2014 edition. The deadline for submission was April 30, 2014, and the nominations were announced on May 29, 2014. Tiwa Savage and Davido received the most nominations with 5 each. Don Jazzy, Flavour N'abania and Wizkid all got four nominations each, while Olamide, Patoranking, Chidinma and Oritse Femi followed closely with three nominations.

The 2010 Nigeria Entertainment Awards was the 5th edition of the ceremony and was held on 18 September 2010. The event took place at BMCC Tribeca Performing Art Center, New York City. Omawumi and Dagrin led the nomination list with 5 and 4 awards respectively.

Peter Okoye, who is better known as Mr P, is a Nigerian singer. He rose to fame in the 2000s as a member of the P-Square duo with his identical twin brother Rudeboy and in 2021 was awarded with an honorary Doctorate degree from ESCAE University in Benin Republic.
