History

The Lagos Review was officially launched in September 2019, founded by Nigerian writer Toni Kan and poet Dami Ajayi. According to Kan, The Lagos Review was started because he "wanted something that is a bit more magazine-like" after exiting The Sun as the art writer. [4] [5] [6]

Helon Habila Nigerian novelist and poet (born 1967)

Helon Habila Ngalabak is a Nigerian novelist and poet, whose writing has won many prizes, including the Caine Prize in 2001. He worked as a lecturer and journalist in Nigeria before moving in 2002 to England, where he was a Chevening Scholar at the University of East Anglia, and now teaches creative writing at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.

Onyeka Nwelue Nigerian filmmaker and author (born 1988)

Onyeka Nwelue is a Nigerian filmmaker, publisher, talk-show host, bookseller, author and an academic visitor and founder of the James Currey Society, at the African Studies Centre, University of Oxford. He is the Dean of School of Cinematographic Studies at Université Queensland in Haiti.

James Currey

James Currey is a former academic publisher specialising in African Studies which since 2008 has been an imprint of Boydell & Brewer. It is named after its founder who established the company in 1984. It publishes on a full spectrum of topics—including anthropology, archaeology, history, politics, economics, development studies, gender studies, literature, theatre, film studies, and the humanities and social sciences generally—and its authors include leading names such as Bethwell Ogot and Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o.

<i>Omo Baba Olowo</i> 2012 studio album by Davido

Omo Baba Olowo is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer Davido. It was released by HKN Music on July 17, 2012. The album was produced by Jay Sleek, Maleek Berry, GospelOnDeBeatz, Spellz, Dokta Frabz, Mr. Chidoo, Theory Soundz and Shizzi. Its release was preceded by four singles: "Back When", "Dami Duro", "Ekuro" and "Overseas". The album's music is a mixture of Afrobeats and hip hop. It features guest appearances from Naeto C, Sina Rambo, B-Red, Kayswitch, Ice Prince and 2 Face Idibia. Omo Baba Olowo received generally negative reviews from music critics, who denounced its lyrical content and Davido's songwriting. The album won Best R&B/Pop Album and received a nomination for Album of the Year at The Headies 2013. It was also nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Harriet Anena Ugandan writer and performer

Harriet Anena is a Ugandan writer and performer, whose writing includes poetry, nonfiction and fiction. She is the author of a collection of poems, A Nation In Labour, published in 2015, won the 2018 Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa. The Economist described her poetry performance as "an arresting evocation of love and war".

Kola Tubosun Nigerian linguist and writer (born 1981)

Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún is a Nigerian linguist, writer, translator, scholar, and cultural activist. His work and influence span the fields of education, language technology, literature, journalism, and linguistics. He is the recipient of the 2016 Premio Ostana "Special Prize" for Writings in the Mother Tongue. for his work in language advocacy. He writes in Yoruba and English.

Bibi Bakare-Yusuf Hon. FRSL is a Nigerian academic, writer and editor from Lagos, Nigeria. She co-founder the publishing company Cassava Republic Press in 2006, in Abuja with Jeremy Weate. Cassava Republic Press was created with a focus on affordability, the need to find and develop local talent, and to publish African writers too often celebrated only in Europe and America. Bakare-Yusuf was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2019, as well as having been selected as a Yale World Fellow, a Desmond Tutu Fellow and a Frankfurt Book Fair Fellow.

Aké Arts and Book Festival

The Aké Arts and Book Festival is a literary and artistic event held annually in Nigeria. It was founded in 2013 by Lola Shoneyin, a Nigerian writer and poet, in Abeokuta. It features new and established writers from across the world, and its primary focus has been to promote, develop, and celebrate the creativity of African writers, poets, and artists. The Aké Arts and Book Festival has been described as the African continent's biggest annual gathering of literary writers, editors, critics, and readers. The festival has an official website and a dedicated magazine, known as the Aké Review.

Molara Wood is a Nigerian creative writer, journalist and critic. She has been described as "one of the eminent voices in the Arts in Nigeria". Her short stories, flash fiction, poetry and essays have appeared in numerous publications. These include African Literature Today, Chimurenga, Farafina Magazine, Sentinel Poetry, DrumVoices Revue, Sable LitMag, Eclectica Magazine, The New Gong Book of New Nigerian Short Stories, and One World: A Global Anthology of Short Stories. She currently lives in Lagos.

Ayobami Adebayo Nigerian writer (born 1988)

Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ is a Nigerian writer. Her 2017 debut novel, Stay With Me, won the 9mobile Prize for Literature and the Prix Les Afriques. She was awarded the Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts and Culture in 2017.

Saraba is a nonprofit literary magazine published by the Saraba Literary Trust in Nigeria. First published in February 2009, it aims "to create unending voices by publishing the finest emerging writers, with focus on writers from Nigeria, and other parts of Africa". It has become one of the most successful literary magazines in and out of Africa.

CREETIQ is a review aggregator website for African film, TV shows, music and literature. The platform offers a brief excerpt of each review curated with a backlink to the originating source of the review. CREETIQ's algorithm appraises each review based on the scores given by each critic, or a score is assigned by in-house editors. The first movie aggregated on the website was Ayo Makun's A Trip to Jamaica.

Dami Ajayi Nigerian of Yoruba descent (born 1986)

Dami Àjàyí is a Nigerian poet, medical doctor, essayist and music critic. He co-founded Saraba Magazine in 2008. He is the author of two collections of poetry and a chapbook.

Ayodele Olofintuade is a Nigerian writer, journalist, and feminist. She identifies as queer and non-binary in Nigeria, which is an anti-LGBTQ country.

<i>Yellow</i> (Brymo album) 2020 studio album by Brymo

Yellow is the seventh studio album by Nigerian singer Brymo, released independently on April 1, 2020. It serves as the follow-up to his live album Live! at Terra Kulture Arena (2019). Yellow was crafted from hedonism and is a departure from the dark themes deployed on Oṣó. Described by Brymo as an album about "love and survival", Yellow is an alternative pop and electronic record that incorporates elements of sentimental ballad, trap, sophisti-pop, shoegaze, rock, synth-pop and folk. Nigerian singer Lindsey Abudei is the only artist featured on the album. Yellow was initially meant to comprise 17 songs but due to technical issues, two songs were omitted from the project. The album was supported by the single "Strippers + White Lines".

The Afrolit Sans Frontieres Festival is a virtual literary festival founded by South African author and curator Zukiswa Wanner as a response to the curfews and lockdowns related to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic within the African continent.

Agbowó is an African literary journal publishing poetry, fiction, essays, drama and visual art. The journal has published several works of literary and visual art since its launch in 2017 as well as three issues—X, Limits, Memory—of an annual, themed magazine.

The Spider King's Daughter is a 2012 novel written by Nigerian writer Chibundu Onuzo. It was first published on March 1, 2012, by Faber and Faber.

In Dependence is a novel written by British-Nigerian author Sarah Ladipo Manyika. Her first novel, it was originally published by Legend Press, London, in 2008.
