TurnTable is a Nigerian music and entertainment magazine founded by Ayomide Oriowo, and Similoluwa Adegoke. TurnTable focuses primarily on music charts, news, and events. Its music charts include the Top 100, and the Year-End chart. TurnTable magazine has two issues, and its first issue was published on 19 December 2020, by Similoluwa Adegoke. [1] Its issues are printed in English language. In 2023 the magazine launched its music recording certification, TurnTable Certification System of Nigeria to represent the recording certification system of music industry in Nigeria.

History

TurnTable was founded in 2020, [2] by Ayomide Oriowo, and Similoluwa Adegoke. On 3 July 2020, TurnTable launched its Top 50 chart, [3] and started operations on 9 November 2020. [4] In December, it began publishing the Top 50 End-Year chart. Since its launch, the magazine has covered Chike, Lojay, [5] and Asake [6] in its issues. The magazine features includes: music executive Bizzle Osikoya, talent managers Bose Ogulu, [7] and Asa Asika. [8] Musicians, Yemi Alade, Namenj, [9] Babyboy AV, Mayorkun, Snazzy the Optimist, [10] Ayra Star, American-Cameroonian singer Libianca, [11] Burna Boy, British musician Wizz Jones. [12] Fave, [13] and record producers Don Jazzy, Niphkeys, [14] and Tempoe. [15]

On 12 September 2022, Ayomide Oriowo announced the exit of Adeayo Adebiyi, the Co-Editor-in-chief of TurnTable. [16]

News publishing

TurnTable publishes a news website and a yearly magazine that covers music, and entertainment. It covers news, charts, interviews, and music reviews, but its major influential creation is the TurnTable charts. The charts track music airplay (radio, and television), and digital streaming. The TurnTable Top 50 chart of the top streamed and selling songs was introduced in 2020. On 31 March 2022, it announce the expansion of the Top 50 into 100. The song was written by Ladipoe and Buju, and produced by Andre Vibez. "Feeling" spent four consecutive weeks at number 1 on the Nigerian TurnTable Top 50 chart, and became the most played song on Nigeria radio from 26 May to 13 July 2021. The song peaked at number 1 on the TurnTable Top 50 Streaming Songs and peaked at number 3 on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart. On 14 July 2022, it debut at number 6 on TurnTable newly launched Top Hip-Hop/Rap Songs chart.

The TurnTable Top 100 is the music industry standard record chart in Nigeria for songs, published weekly by TurnTable magazine. Chart rankings are based on airplay and online streaming in Nigeria. In its opening year, TurnTable charts listed 50 positions, but later expanded its chart ranking to 100 on the second half of 2022.

The TurnTable End of the Year Top 50 of 2020 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles in Nigeria. Its data, published by TurnTable magazine, is based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, as well as airplay and streaming. At the end of a year, TurnTable publishes an annual list of the 50 most successful songs throughout that year on its top 50 charts based on the information. The 2020 edition was published on 30 December 2020, calculated with data from 1 January to 14 December 2020.

TurnTable charts is a catalog of relative weekly, and yearly popular songs in Nigeria. The results are published in TurnTable magazine. TurnTable provides additional weekly charts, as well as the End of the Year Top 50. The charts can be ranked according to airplay, and digital streaming. For main song charts such as the TurnTable Top 100, all three data are used to compile the charts. For End of the Year Top 50, streams and airplay from TurnTable Top 100 are included.

"PALAZZO" is a song by a Nigerian disc jockey SPINALL, featuring Asake. It was released on 13 May 2022, through TheCAP Music. SPINALL, and Asake wrote the song, produced by SPINALL and Magix Sticks, with sound engineer Eskeez. PALAZZO earned SPINALL his third UK Afrobeats Singles Chart entry at number 6, and earned Asake third entry on the chart. It also earned SPINALL his first entry on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs at number 6, and earned Asake, his third entry on the chart. The song was ranked at number 1 on TheCable's list of 10 TCL radio pick of the week, and debuted on number 2 on the TurnTable Top 50 chart.

Ayobami Olaleye professionally known as Phantom is a multi-gold, award-winning Afrobeats record producer, singer, and songwriter. In 2020, he became the third Nigerian Afrobeats producer in history to be certified by Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP) after Burna Boy’s "Ye" became a certified gold record in France. The song earned him an award at 2019 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, in the African Producer of the Year category, with a nomination at The Headies, in the Producer of the Year category.

"Sugarcane" is a song by Ghanaian singer and songwriter Camidoh, featuring the Nigerian record producer Phantom, released in 2021 by Grind Don't Stop Records, through Crux Global, and MOVES Recordings. A remix, with Mayorkun, and Darkoo, featuring the Ghanaian singer King Promise, was released in 2022. The song gained popularity across TikTok, following the release of the remix.

Ekeh Chiaka Joseph known professionally as Majeeed is a Nigerian afropop singer and songwriter signed to Dream Empire Music. He is known for his breakthrough single "Yawa No Dey End", released in 2022 as the lead single off his extended play Bitter Sweet. On 29 April 2022, a new version of "Yawa No Dey End", was released with Joeboy, through Dream Empire Music, and emPawa Africa, which peaked at number 41 on the Nigeria TurnTable Top 50 chart, on the week of May 9, 2022.

Ahmed Ololade, known professionally as Asake, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is signed to YBNL Nation and Empire Distribution. His stage name "Asake" is his mother's name.

Abiodun Osikoya, popularly known as Bizzle Osikoya, is a Nigerian record label executive, talent manager, film producer, and sound engineer. He is the co-founder of The Plug and The Block Party Series. In June 2022, Bizzle joined the Recording Academy class of 2022, as a professional member.

<i>Mr. Money with the Vibe</i> 2022 studio album by Asake

Mr. Money with the Vibe is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer Asake, following his signing with YBNL Nation in February 2022. It was released on 7 September 2022 through Empire Distribution. The album comprises 12 tracks, which were all produced by Magicsticks. The album features two guest appearances from Russ and Burna Boy. Two other tracks which have been previously released as singles from the album are "Peace Be Unto You (PBUY)" and "Terminator" which were released in June 2022 and August 2022 respectively. This album release is a follow-up to his extended play Ololade Asake which was released in February 2022 immediately after being signed by Olamide to YBNL. Following the album's release, it peaked at number 66 on the Billboard 200 chart in September 2022.

<i>Sad Romance</i> 2022 studio album by CKay

Sad Romance is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer CKay. It was released by Warner Music Africa on 23 September 2022. The album features guest appearances from Ayra Starr, Davido, Focalistic, Abidoza, Mayra Andrade, and Ronisia, and was executive produced by CKay. Following the release of the album CKay embarked on the Sad Romance North America Tour (2022).

The TurnTable Top 50 is the official album streaming chart in Nigeria. It is compiled every Tuesday by a Nigeria-based music digital streaming tracking company and published every Tuesday by TurnTable magazine. The list shows the 50 best-streaming music albums of the moment in Nigeria. The first issue of the Nigeria Top 50, was launched on Tuesday, 8 November 2022, and the first number-one album was Mr. Money with the Vibe by Asake.

The TurnTable End of the Year Top 100 of 2022 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles in Nigeria. Its data, published by TurnTable magazine, is based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, as well as airplay and streaming. At the end of a year, TurnTable publishes an annual list of the 100 most successful songs throughout that year on its top 100 charts based on the information published on 22 December 2022 in TurnTable, and calculated with data from January 3, 2022, to December 12, 2022.

Sulaimon Shekoni Solomon, known professionally as Khaid, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter currently signed to Neville Records. He rose to stardom with the release of the song "With You", after signing a record deal with Sydney Talker's Neville Records in 2022, which earned him his first chart entry on Nigeria TurnTable Top 50 single chart at number forty-eight on 14 February 2022.

TurnTable Certification System of Nigeria (TCSN), founded by the Nigeria music magazine TurnTable, to represent the music recording certification in Nigeria based on the number of albums and singles paid streams and digital downloads. The certification is not automatic; for an award to be made, the manager, distributor, or record label must first request certification from its website.
