The Latency is the debut studio album by Canadian pop rock band The Latency. The album was released on September 8, 2009 via MapleMusic Recordings. On September 1, the album was made available for streaming exclusively through MuchMusic. [1]
On July 1, 2008, The Latency released their debut EP, Chomp!!, which contained the tracks "Tonight, I Love You", "Kids", "Can You Hear Me Call?", "Breathe", "Hello" and "Cry Me Out". [2] These songs were later included on The Latency, along with six other new tracks. The band signed with MapleMusic Recordings in 2009, following the success of their debut single, "Tonight, I Love You". [3] The album was produced by bassist Tommy Mac of Hedley, who also serves as the band's manager. [4] The album was recorded at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia. [5] All tracks were written by the band, with "Tonight, I Love You" and "Kids" being co-written Jacob Hoggard and Mac. [6]
"Tonight, I Love You" was released in December 2008 as the lead single from the album. [7] The song peaked at number 93 on the Canadian Hot 100. [8] The music video premiered on MuchMusic in 2009 and reached number one on the MuchMusic Countdown. [9] "Kids" was serviced to contemporary hit radio on May 26, 2009, and was released as the album's second single. [10] A music video for the song was released in August 2009 and was directed by John Poliquin. [11] "All You Wanted" was released as the album's third single and premiered on MuchMusic on July 24, 2009. [12] The song was released for radio airplay on August 16. [13] The fourth and final single, "Fork in the Road" was released on February 16, 2010. [14] The music video was released on February 18, 2010. [4]
In support of the album, the band toured with Simple Plan, Marianas Trench and Plain White T's. [3] They also joined Shiloh on the Scene tour in September 2009. [15] In April 2010, the group embarked on the SASS tour, performing at every school in Ontario. [16] From April to May 2010, the band supported Faber Drive on the Can't Keep a Secret tour along with These Kids Wear Crowns, Jesse Labelle and The New Cities. [17]
In 2010, The Latency was nominated for Pop Recording of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. [18]

Simple Plan is a Canadian rock band from Montreal, Quebec. Formed in 1999, the band's current lineup consists of Pierre Bouvier, Chuck Comeau (drums), Jeff Stinco, and Sébastien Lefebvre. David Desrosiers joined the band in early 2000 and left in July 2020 due to sexual misconduct accusations.
Sass Jordan is a British-born Canadian rock singer from Montreal, Quebec. Her first single, "Tell Somebody," from her debut album of the same title won the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1989. Since then, she has been nominated three more times for Juno Awards. Her album Rebel Moon Blues hit #5 on the Billboard Blues chart. Released April 28, 2023, her latest is a live album from 1994 when she toured with Taylor Hawkins on drums called Live in New York Ninety-Four.
Franz Ferdinand are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 2002. The band's original line-up was composed of Alex Kapranos, Nick McCarthy, Bob Hardy and Paul Thomson. Julian Corrie and Dino Bardot joined the band in 2017 after McCarthy left during the previous year, and Audrey Tait joined the band after Thomson left in 2021. The band is one of the more popular post-punk revival bands, garnering multiple UK top 20 hits. They have been nominated for several Grammy Awards and have received two Brit Awards—winning one for Best British Group—as well as one NME Award.

Sam Roberts is a Canadian rock singer-songwriter who has released seven albums. His debut EP The Inhuman Condition, reached the Canadian charts in 2002. He and his bandmates have released three albums as Sam Roberts and four albums as Sam Roberts Band. He is also a member of Canadian group Anyway Gang, who released their debut self-titled album in 2019. Roberts has been nominated, together with his band, for fifteen Juno Awards, winning six, including Artist of the Year twice and Album of the Year once (2004).
Cowboy Junkies are an alternative country and folk rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1985 by Alan Anton (bassist), Michael Timmins, Peter Timmins (drummer) and Margo Timmins (vocalist). The three Timminses are siblings, and Anton worked with Michael Timmins during their first couple of bands. John Timmins was a member of the band but left the group before the recording of their debut studio album. The band line-up has never changed since, although they use several guest musicians on many of their studio albums, including multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird who has performed on every album except the first.
Felicia Lily Dobson is a Canadian singer. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she began performing as a teenager, during which time she received and refused an offer from Jive Records for a recording contract. Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey, Craig Potter, Mark Potter and Pete Turner. They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Drummer Alex Reeves replaced Richard Jupp in 2016 as a touring and session musician at first, before becoming a full member in 2024.
Tommy Mac is a Canadian bassist and singer. He is the bassist of the rock band Hedley. Mac currently plays in a band called Day of the Dog as of 2021.

Metro Station was an American pop rock band that was formed in Los Angeles, California by singer Mason Musso and bassist/guitarist Trace Cyrus. In late 2006, the band signed a recording contract with Columbia Records and RED Ink Records. The band is best known for the commercially successful hit single "Shake It" from the group's self-titled debut album. In 2010, tension between Cyrus and Musso caused the band to go on hiatus. In 2011, the band returned, however, it was announced that Cyrus was no longer a part of the group and Musso had purchased the rights to the name.
We the Kings is an American rock band formed in Bradenton, Florida, in 2005. The band's eponymous full-length debut album, released in 2007, included the platinum single "Check Yes Juliet", and went on to sell over 250,000 copies in the US. Abandon All Ships was a Canadian post-hardcore band from Toronto, Ontario. Formed in 2006, it was signed domestically to Universal Music Canada via Underground Operations, along with an American deal to Rise Records and its imprint Velocity Records.
These Kids Wear Crowns is a six-member Canadian power pop and pop-rock band, formed in 2009 in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. They were "discovered" on MuchMusic's disBand and signed to a contract with Capitol Records/EMI. They have performed with acts such as Hedley, Faber Drive, Forever the Sickest Kids, Good Charlotte and Lights. The band's debut single and music video "Break It Up" debuted at No. 60 on the Canadian Hot 100. They re-issued their EP on August 31, 2010.
