Cadence Recordings, formerly MapleMusic Recordings, is a Canadian independent record label founded by Andy Maize, Jeff Maize, Mike Alkier, Evan Hu, Lorique Mindel and Grant Dexter in 1999 [1] and based in Toronto, Ontario. Other investors include Gary Slaight, Michael Burke and Universal Music. In 2016, its parent Company Maple Core changed its name to Cadence Music Group, and as a result, MapleMusic was renamed as Cadence Recordings. [2]

History

The MapleMusic Recordings label is a project of Andy Maize from Canadian roots rock band Skydiggers and Maple CEO Grant Dexter. Other artists who have released albums on MapleMusic include Carly Rae Jepsen, David Usher, Colin James, Boy, The Dears, Jason Bajada, Martha Wainwright, Pilot Speed (formerly known as Pilate), Gordon Downie, Joel Plaskett, Spirit of the West, Ridley Bent, Kinnie Starr, Cookie Duster and the Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir.

MapleMusic released three Radiohead albums In Rainbows , The King of Limbs and TKOL RMX 1234567 in Canada, along with ATO in the US and XL in the UK. [3] [4]

Singer-songwriter Sam Roberts has transformed from a struggling independent musician to a Canadian rock musician practically overnight by his 2001 MapleMusic Recordings debut, The Inhuman Condition , and Kathleen Edwards, whose album Failer made her a critical favourite in 2003.

MapleMusic Recordings' brick and mortar business is distributed and marketed in Canada by Universal Music Canada.

In 2015, Iain M.Taylor became CEO of MapleMusic.

In March 2016, the label announced it had changed its name to Cadence Recordings after MapleCore was renamed as Cadence Music Group. [2]

It is a joint venture between Canadian-based Cadence Music Group and US-based Fontana Distribution. The company was established by MapleCore in 2004 as MapleNationwide, and in 2006, it partnered with Fontana Distribution and was rebranded as Fontana North. It has expanded throughout Canada for pan-Canadian distribution of many music labels. On August 22, 2013 it was announced that they would be teaming up with Distort Entertainment in a joint venture deal with Fontana North acting as the main distributor of the hardcore label.

In 2013, the album was released on CD in the United States, through distribution from Alliance Entertainment. In July 2015, the album was released on vinyl in Europe.

The Juno Awards of 2010 honoured music industry achievements in Canada for the latter part of 2008 and for most of 2009. These ceremonies were in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada during the weekend ending 18 April 2010. Curiosity is the second EP by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen. It was released on February 14, 2012, by 604 Records. Initially listed on the iTunes Store with a full-length tracklist, Curiosity was cut down to a six-song EP just days before its release. The full-length album titled Kiss was released 7 months later containing only two songs from the EP on its standard edition. Musically, Curiosity is a pop album influenced by several genres such as dance-pop and R&B, while its lyrical content is mostly about love.

The Loneliest Time is the sixth studio album by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen. It was released on October 21, 2022, through 604 Records in Canada, and School Boy and Interscope Records. The album was preceded by the release of its lead single, "Western Wind", which was followed by "Beach House", "Talking to Yourself", and the title track. The album received positive reviews and was placed in several lists of best of the year. In support of the album, Jepsen embarked on The So Nice Tour, which began in September 2022.
