The Night Before Christmas is an orchestral work written by the American composer Aaron Dai in 2006. The work is performed by a full orchestra and a narrator reading Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas .

The Night Before Christmas premiered in New York City on December 2, 2006 [1] with The Chelsea Symphony and actor Richard Kind. It has since been narrated by Ana Gasteyer (2007), David Hyde Pierce (2008), [2] Charles Busch (2009), [3] [4] Andrea Martin (2010), [5] Rachel Dratch (2011), Mo Rocca (2012), [6] [7] Victor Garber (2013), [8] BD Wong (2014), Seth Rudetsky (2015), [9] Caroline Rhea (2016), [10] Judy Gold (2017), [11] Annie Golden (2018), [12] Mario Cantone (2019), [13] John Lithgow (2020, virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic), [14] [15] Christian Coulson (2021), [16] Eve Plumb (2022), [17] and Bellamy Young (2023). Moore's poem was selected partly due to the nominal connection between the author's home and the orchestra that would debut the musical work. 'Twas the Night Before Christmas was penned in 1822 on Moore's country estate—named "Chelsea"—which eventually became the Manhattan district Chelsea, [19] which, in turn, provided the name for The Chelsea Symphony. Dai's The Night Before Christmas premiered less than two blocks from the site of the original poem's writing.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas is a 1974 animated Christmas television special produced by Rankin/Bass Productions which features Clement Clarke Moore's famous 1823 poem, A Visit from St. Nicholas, the opening line of which is the source of the title of this animated special. The special first originally aired on CBS on December 8, 1974 where it aired annually until 1994, when The Family Channel took over its syndication rights. AMC took over syndication rights for the special in 2018.

<i>Strike Up the Band</i> (musical)

Strike Up the Band is a 1927 musical with a book by Morrie Ryskind, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and music by George Gershwin. It first ran as a satirical show in Philadelphia that year, unsuccessfully, and on Broadway in 1930 after the original book by George S. Kaufman was revised by Ryskind. The show concerned a cheese manufacturer who sponsors a war against Switzerland because it will be named after him. Much of the satire of the 1927 version was replaced in the new version by silliness, leading Ryskind to recall, "What I had to do, in a sense, was to rewrite War and Peace for the Three Stooges." In the 1930 version the opening of Act I of the musical was reset from a cheese factory to a chocolate factory, and much of the work was a re-imagined as occurring during a dream sequence.

Sons of Serendip is a classical crossover ensemble consisting of musicians Kendall Ramseur (cellist), Cordaro Rodriguez (pianist), Mason Morton (harpist), and Micah Christian.
