The Paris Collection is the second album released by the pop duo Dollar. [1] It was released in December 1980, their first album on WEA Records.
Released in late 1980, the album was the first the duo released on the WEA label. Recorded, appropriately enough, in Paris, the album failed to provide Dollar with the same success they had achieved a year previously. Out of the three single releases, only "Takin' a Chance On You" reached the charts, stalling at No.62. [2] The album itself failed to chart. The other singles were "The Girls are Out to Get Ya" and "You Take My Breath Away". In an attempt to promote the album, members David Van Day and Thereza Bazar announced their engagement to the press, when in reality they had split up as a couple months earlier. [3] [4]
The tracks on the album were written by the duo themselves and largely produced by them along with Greg Walsh. Experienced hit producer Phil Wainman produced one song - "The Girls are Out to Get Ya" - which was the lead single from the album, but failed to make an impact.
Dollar went on to achieve their biggest success with the label when they teamed up with producer Trevor Horn in 1981. Tracks from this album were released as B-sides to later hit singles in a further attempt to boost sales of the album. Many of the tracks were released on compact disc on a 2006 compilation album, The Platinum Collection. [5] The whole album was released on compact disc in February 2010 by Cherry Red Records with six bonus tracks. [6] These included two solo singles by Van Day after the group split in 1983, "Young Americans Talking" and "Ringing the Bell", the former a No.43 hit, produced by Andy Hill. [7]

Eurythmics were a British pop duo consisting of members Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. Stewart and Lennox were both previously in The Tourists, a band which broke up in 1980; the Eurythmics were formed later that year in Wagga Wagga, Australia. The duo released their first studio album, In the Garden, in 1981 to little success, but went on to achieve global success when their second album Sweet Dreams , was released in 1983. The title track became a worldwide hit which topped the charts in various countries including the US. The duo went on to release a string of hit singles and albums before they split up in 1990. By this time Stewart was a sought-after record producer, while Lennox began a solo recording career in 1992 with her debut album Diva. After almost a decade apart, the Eurythmics reunited to record their ninth album, Peace, released in late 1999. They reunited again in 2005 to release the single "I've Got a Life", as part of a new Eurythmics compilation album, Ultimate Collection.
Sonia Evans, known mononymously as Sonia, is an English pop singer and actor from Liverpool. She had a 1989 UK number one hit "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" and became the first female UK artist to achieve five top 20 hit singles from one album. She represented the United Kingdom in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, where she finished second with the song "Better the Devil You Know". Between 1989 and 1993, she had 11 UK Top 30 hits, including "Listen to Your Heart" (1989), "Counting Every Minute" (1990) and "Only Fools " (1991). In 1994, she starred as Sandy in a West End revival of the musical Grease, while on television she appeared as Bunty in the 1998 BBC comedy series The Lily Savage Show.
Reborn in the USA was a British reality television show broadcast on ITV, in which ten British pop acts were transported to the US, where they were supposedly not known in the hope of revitalising their music career.
Guys 'n' Dolls were a UK pop group comprising a three-girl/three-boy line-up. In the mid-1970s, they scored UK top-ten hits with the singles "There's a Whole Lot of Loving" and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me". They found further success in Holland in the late 1970s where they had a number one hit with "You're My World".
Seals and Crofts were an American soft rock duo made up of James Eugene "Jim" Seals and Darrell George "Dash" Crofts. They are best known for their Hot 100 No. 6 hits "Summer Breeze" (1972), "Diamond Girl" (1973), and "Get Closer" (1976). Both members have long been public advocates of the Baháʼí Faith. Though the duo disbanded in 1980, they reunited briefly in 1991–1992, and again in 2004, when they released their final album, Traces.

Philip Neil Wainman is an English record producer and songwriter, primarily active in the 1970s. He is noted for his work with Sweet, XTC, Dollar, Mud, and the Bay City Rollers. His greatest chart success, however, was the production of "I Don't Like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats, written by Bob Geldof and arranged by Fiachra Trench.
Thereza Bazar is a Canadian-born English singer, best known as one half of the pop duo, Dollar.
Paul Bevoir is an English pop/rock songwriter and musician. He is probably best known as a member of the 1980s English pop band The Jetset, who were associated with the British Mod revival.
