The Right Combination is a 1980 duet album by Linda Clifford and Curtis Mayfield.
Originally released on Curtom,it was recorded in Chicago except "It's Lovin' Time (Your Baby's Home)" recorded in Philadelphia. The album was produced by Curtis Mayfield and Gil Askey except “Ain't No Love Lost”solely by Mayfield and “It's Lovin' Time (Your Baby's Home)”by Curtis Mayfield,Norman Harris and Bruce Gray. Gil Askey arranged the album except “It's Lovin' Time (Your Baby's Home)”which was arranged by Norman Harris. Linda Clifford has collaborated with Gil Askey and Curtis Mayfield on her previous four albums for Curtom and with Norman Harris on an album released just before (Here's My Love). In 1980 she would sing "Red light" for the Fame soundtrack and collaborate with Isaac Hayes for her next album. The album was reissued on CD in 1999 in Britain with 11 bonus tracks (8 by Clifford,3 by Mayfield) and a bonus 1972 radio interview of Mayfield on an additional CD.

Curtis Lee Mayfield was an American singer-songwriter,guitarist,and record producer,and one of the most influential musicians behind soul and politically conscious African-American music. He first achieved success and recognition with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted group The Impressions during the civil rights movement of the late 1950s and 1960s,and later worked as a solo artist.

Originally released in May 1971 as a double LP on Mayfield's Curtom label,the album's 16 tracks —along with Mayfield's interstitial raps on the politics of the day —were recorded at Paul Colby's 230 seater Bitter End nightclub in New York City. According to John Abbey,who at the beginning of the 1970s was editor of the UK magazine Blues &Soul,Mayfield and his band's first set at a Bitter End date in January 1971 comprised the bulk of the music presented here. Mixed primarily with Eddie Kramer at Electric Lady Studios,the album features Master Henry Gibson playing percussion,Craig McMullen on rhythm guitar,Joseph "Lucky" Scott on bass,and Tyrone McCullen on drums.

He wrote and produced an additional song,"Tomorrow Night for Sure",that surfaced in 1990 on the collection Of All Time / Classic Collection. Not on the original LP,"Tomorrow Night for Sure" is also available on the Japanese re-issue of Heartbeat as an additional track (1998) and on an expanded British CD re-issue of The Right Combination (1999).

Joseph "Lucky" Scott was an American bassist,and musical director. He is most recognized for his work with Curtis Mayfield,in particular the Super Fly album. While Lucky was predominantly the bassist and musical director for Curtis Mayfield,his credits also include The Impressions,Aretha Franklin,Natalie Cole,The Staple Singers,Leroy Hutson,Gladys Knight,and more. He played a Fender Jazz bass with flat wound strings and had an aggressive right-hand plucking technique that was very percussive.
