The Way We Talk is the second EP by Tempe, Arizona-based rock band The Maine. It was released on December 11, 2007 via Fearless Records [1] and sold 50,000 copies. [2] "The Way We Talk" is the only single released from the EP. [3]
The Maine formed in January 2007, consisting of John O'Callaghan on vocals, Kennedy Brock and Jared Monaco on guitar, Garrett Nickelsen on bass and Pat Kirch on drums. In November of that year, the group signed to independent label Fearless Records and announced the release date for The Way We Talk. [4] Speaking about the EP, O'Callaghan stated,
"The Way We Talk is a collection of songs that revolve around the theme of communication while in a relationship and how it changes as we grow up. This EP really begins to show how we are transitioning musically and demonstrates our new attitude toward writing." [5]

The Way We Talk was met with generally positive reviews from music critics. Carlos Ramirez of AltSounds praised songs like "Give Me Anything" and "If I Only Had the Heart" calling them an "infectious attack." He ends off by stating, "if you are a fan of Cartel, Cute Is What We Aim For and Sherwood, The Way We Talk might just be your favorite new record." [7]
Nathan Lint of AbsolutePunk stated, "they stepped it up – trying to put themselves as far out there as possible, trying to let people know that they might be a bunch of teenagers but they're here to work and have fun." He criticized the EP for having too many songs written about girls, hoping that the group will write about "different things." [6]

Fearless Records is an American independent record label that was founded in 1994. Mayday Parade is an American rock band from Tallahassee, Florida. Formed in 2005, the band was a result of a merger between two local Tallahassee bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. Their debut EP Tales Told by Dead Friends, was released in 2006, and sold over 50,000 copies without any label support. In July 2007, Mayday Parade released their debut album A Lesson in Romantics. Having been signed to Fearless Records since 2006, the band also signed onto a major label with Atlantic Records in 2009. Their second studio album, Anywhere but Here was released in October 2009 and their third album, entitled Mayday Parade, was released in October 2011. Mayday Parade's fourth album, titled Monsters in the Closet, was released in October 2013. Their fifth album, titled Black Lines, was released October 2015. In April 2018, the band signed to Rise Records and released their sixth studio album Sunnyland on June 15, 2018. Their seventh studio album, What It Means To Fall Apart, was released in November 2021.
Tales Told by Dead Friends is the debut EP by American rock band Mayday Parade, released on June 13, 2006. The group resulted from the merger of local acts Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. With their line-up solidified, the first two songs they wrote together were "When I Get Home, You're So Dead" and "Three Cheers for Five Years". Soon afterwards, they recorded an EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, with Lee Dyess. The group followed Warped Tour and sold copies to people in line. By the end of summer, the band had sold 10,000 copies of the EP. This attracted the attention of Fearless Records, who would sign the band in late August. The group went on tour from September to November, before the EP was reissued by Fearless.
A Lesson in Romantics is the debut studio album by American rock band Mayday Parade. The band resulted from a merger of two separate bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment. In June 2006 the band released an EP, Tales Told by Dead Friends, which they sold to people by following the 2006 edition of Warped Tour and offering copies; it eventually sold 10,000 copies. The band signed to Fearless Records in August. A Lesson in Romantics was recorded in early 2007 with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount. Vocalist/guitarist Jason Lancaster left the band in March 2007 citing a lack of writing credit on the band's releases. Prior to the release of A Lesson in Romantics, "Black Cat", "When I Get Home, You're So Dead", and "Jamie All Over" were made available for streaming. After the album's release, the band participated in the 2007 edition of Warped Tour.
Every Avenue is an American pop-punk band from Marysville, Michigan, formed in 2003. Before their temporary disbandment, the group consisted of David Ryan Strauchman, Joshua Randall Withenshaw, Jimmie Deeghan, Matt Black and Dennis Wilson. The band is signed to Fearless Records and released their debut album, Shh, Just Go with it in 2008. It was followed up by their second album, Picture Perfect, in 2009, which reached No. 136 on Billboard 200. In 2011, the band's latest and third album titled Bad Habits was released, and it peaked at No. 63 on Billboard 200, being the band's highest chart position. The Maine is an American rock band from Tempe, Arizona. Formed in 2007, the group consists of lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist John O'Callaghan, lead guitarist Jared Monaco, bass guitarist Garrett Nickelsen, drummer Patrick Kirch, and rhythm guitarist Kennedy Brock. The band is joined by touring member Adam Simons, as of 2018, who plays keys, rhythm and lead guitar as well as percussion.

The Summer Set is a pop rock band from Scottsdale, Arizona. The band consists of lead vocalist Brian Logan Dales, guitarist John Gomez, bass guitarist Stephen Gomez, and drummer Jess Bowen. The Summer Set was signed to The Militia Group in 2008, Razor & Tie from 2009 to 2011, and to Fearless Records from 2012 to 2017. The Summer Set released four full-length studio albums: Love Like This (2009), Everything's Fine (2011), Legendary (2013), and Stories for Monday (2016). The band toured with numerous musical acts, including the Cab, We Are the In Crowd, Mayday Parade, Sleeping with Sirens, All Time Low, the Downtown Fiction, and Action Item. The band was on hiatus from October 2017 to August 2021.
Sparks the Rescue is an American rock band from Maine. They formed when members of three high school bands, Pozer, Short of April, and Two Girls Later, converged. Their debut EP, Stumbling Skyward, was released independently in 2005 with McAllister and O'Connell sharing main vocal duties. The band released the Hey, Mr. Allure EP in 2006, which saw the addition of lead vocalist Alex Roy. On February 6, 2007, Sparks the Rescue released their junior EP, The Secrets We Can't Keep, after signing to Double Blind Music. This release saw the departure of their keyboardist. STR officially released their debut full-length album Eyes to the Sun on May 5, 2009, on Fearless Records. The album was produced by Jonathan Wyman of Halo Studios in Westbrook, Maine.
Anywhere but Here is the second studio album by American rock band Mayday Parade, released on October 6, 2009. In January 2009 the band started writing Anywhere but Here, working with several co-writers. The band signed to Atlantic in March 2009. Later that month, the band started recording at House of Loud in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. The album's production was handled by producer David Bendeth. "The Silence" was released as a single in August and was followed by Anywhere but Here, released through Fearless Records, a couple of months later. "Kids in Love" was released as a single in May 2010. "Anywhere but Here" was released as a single in September.
Black & White is the second album by The Maine and was released on July 12, 2010. The album features singles "Inside of You" and "Growing Up". It debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 with 22,634 copies sold in its first week.
Ice Nine Kills is an American heavy metal band from Boston, Massachusetts, who are signed to Fearless Records. Best known for its horror-inspired lyrics, Ice Nine Kills formed in its earliest incarnation in 2000 by high school friends Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz. Charnas is currently the only remaining founding member.
Rocky Loves Emily is an American pop rock band formed in Sterling Heights, Michigan in 2008. As of mid-2012, their lineup consists of vocalist Brandon Ellis, drummer Pete Kalinowski, guitarists Sean Kick and Andrew Stevens, and bassist Stephen Hull. John Cornelius O'Callaghan V is an American singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known for being the lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist of American rock band The Maine which he joined in 2007. He debuted a solo project under the name John the Ghost in 2016.
