ThincLab is a network of startup incubators created by the University of Adelaide in South Australia, [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, [6] and other partners, including Primary Industries and Regions SA. [7]

The ThincLab main offices are in Pulteney Street, [8] in Adelaide city centre. [9] [10] Other locations include the Waite Campus of Adelaide University, in the Adelaide suburb of Urrbrae; [11] Loxton in the Riverland of South Australia; [12] [13] Singapore; [14] [15] Christchurch, New Zealand; [16] [6] and France. [17]

The incubator supports startups in several industries, including agricultural technology, [18] [7] [19] space industry, [20] social enterprise, [21] the food industry, [22] and high-tech.

A startup studio, also known as a startup factory, or a startup foundry, or a venture studio, is a studio-like company that aims at building several startup companies in succession. This style of business building is referred to as "parallel entrepreneurship".

Lightning Lab is a startup accelerator in New Zealand, which has been operating since 2013. Lightning Lab is owned and managed by Creative HQ, a startup incubator in Wellington. Lightning Lab programmes have been delivered in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. Lightning Lab operates various different programmes that each have a separate focus. Lightning Lab Digital is the accelerator catered towards software companies and has been run in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Lightning Lab Manufacturing caters towards hardware startups, and there has been a single programme, run in Lower Hutt, Wellington. Additionally, in 2016 Lightning Lab XX was held in Wellington with a focus on women-led companies with at least one woman on the founding team.

Cellular agriculture focuses on the production of agricultural products from cell cultures using a combination of biotechnology, tissue engineering, molecular biology, and synthetic biology to create and design new methods of producing proteins, fats, and tissues that would otherwise come from traditional agriculture. Most of the industry is focused on animal products such as meat, milk, and eggs, produced in cell culture rather than raising and slaughtering farmed livestock which is associated with substantial global problems of detrimental environmental impacts, animal welfare, food security and human health. Cellular agriculture is a field of the biobased economy. The most well known cellular agriculture concept is cultured meat.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lot Fourteen</span> Cultural and business precinct under development in Adelaide, South Australia

Lot Fourteen is a business and technology precinct at the eastern end of North Terrace in Adelaide city centre, South Australia. The 7 ha (17-acre) site formerly accommodated the old Royal Adelaide Hospital, which was moved to a new building at the western end of North Terrace in 2017. Its name was derived from the original 1837 plan for Adelaide by surveyor-general Colonel William Light. By 2020, refurbished hospital buildings were home to a large number of tenants, and further new buildings and public spaces are planned, scheduled for completion around 2025. The redevelopment of the site has been led by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ion District</span>

The Ion District, Ion Innovation District, or Rice Innovation District, is a technology park and innovation district in Midtown Houston which was established as a joint initiative between Rice University and the City of Houston. It has also been called the South Main Innovation District. The district's central hub and first building is the Ion, which opened in 2021 after owner Rice Management Company (RMC) converted it from a former Sears store. The building houses coworking and office spaces, business incubators and accelerators, classrooms, a prototyping lab, investor studio, and restaurants. Current tenants include Chevron Technology Ventures and Microsoft. The district also includes Greentown Labs Houston, a business incubator focused on climate technology and sustainable energy, and a large outdoor plaza.

Icehouse Ventures is a New Zealand-based venture capital firm. The firm is headquartered in Auckland and mainly focuses on the technology industry and has backed 200 companies. The firm also operates a variety of angel groups networks such as Ice Angels and Arc Angels. Icehouse Ventures was formally founded in 2019 as a separate company but had operated as part of the Icehouse group since 2001. In 2019, the founding CEO of the Icehouse stepped down as CEO and joined the board of directors of Icehouse Ventures.

The Innovation Collaboration Centre (ICC) is a startup incubator based in Adelaide, South Australia, which runs Venture Catalyst Space to help companies grow their businesses in the space industry. It is part of the University of South Australia, and has funded several startups as of 2022.

The South Australian Space Industry Centre (SASIC) was created by the South Australian Government to be the home to the Australian Space Agency and bring together over 90 space-related organisations. It is based out of Lot Fourteen, an innovation precinct based in the Adelaide city centre.

CIIE.CO is an Indian startup accelerator and incubator that supports early-stage startups located at IIM Ahmedabad in Ahmedabad, India. It was founded in 2002 to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in India. It is a Center of excellence set up at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad with support from the Government of India's Department of Science and Technology and the Government of Gujarat.
