Thomas V. Chema,better known as Tom Chema,is an American academic administrator and attorney. Chema served as the 21st President of Hiram College from 2004 to 2013. Prior to becoming president of Hiram,Chema spent more than 30 years in business,government,and law. [1]
A native of East Liverpool,Ohio,Chema earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
He began his career with the Cleveland-based law firm of Arter &Hadden in 1971 and became a partner in 1979. He took a leave of absence in 1983 to serve as Executive Director of the Ohio Lottery. In 1985,became Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. [2]
Chema also serves in a number of national higher education associations including the Council of Independent Colleges,the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities,the Annapolis Group,and with Ohio-based organizations such as the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio,the North Coast Athletic Conference,and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. In 1990,he was appointed executive director of the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex [4] and was responsible for overseeing the public-private partnership that led to the financing and construction of Progressive Field and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. He then resumed his law practice and in recent years has consulted across the country on sports and entertainment-related economic development projects as President of Gateway Consultants Group. [3]
Chema is recognized as an expert on energy and telecommunications economics and regulation,infrastructure planning,and developing public-private partnerships. He has published numerous articles on these topics and frequently lectures throughout the country,including assignments at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. [3]
Hiram College is a private liberal arts college in Hiram,Ohio. It was founded in 1850 as the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute by Amos Sutton Hayden and other members of the Disciples of Christ Church. The college is nonsectarian and coeducational. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Among its alumni is James A. Garfield,who also served as a college instructor and principal before he was President of the United States.
Cleveland State University (CSU) is a public research university in Cleveland,Ohio. It was established in 1964 and opened for classes in 1965 after acquiring the entirety of Fenn College,a private school that had been in operation since 1923. Roxanne Qualls is an American politician who served as the 66th mayor of Cincinnati,Ohio. She also served a two-year term on the Cincinnati City Council prior to her service as mayor,having been elected in 1991. On August 8,2007,the Charter Committee announced her appointment to fill the unexpired term of council member Jim Tarbell. Qualls was elected to a two-year term on Cincinnati City Council in November 2007,and again in 2009 and 2011. She served as Vice Mayor,the chair of the Budget and Finance Committee,chair of the Livable Communities Committee and chair of the Subcommittee on Major Transportation and Infrastructure Projects.

The Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority,commonly referred to as PARTA,is a transit agency serving Portage County,Ohio. It is headquartered in Franklin Township just outside the Kent city limits. PARTA was formed in 1975 from an agreement between the city of Kent and Franklin Township and has since expanded to include routes over much of Portage County. It operates several local routes including circulator and suburban routes in Kent,and an interurban route connecting Ravenna,Kent,and Stow. PARTA also offers express routes including services into downtown Cleveland,Akron as well as weekday service to the rural Portage County communities of Windham,Garrettsville and Hiram. In addition,PARTA includes Kent State University's Campus Bus Service,which it acquired in 2004,and a dial-a-ride service. A proposed plan to acquire Lorain County Transit to serve better bus service in Lorain County. In 2022,the system had a ridership of 633,800.

Charles Henry Parrish was a minister and educator in Lexington and Louisville,Kentucky. He was the pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Louisville from 1886 until his death in 1931. He was a professor and officer at Simmons College,and then served as the president of the Eckstein Institute from 1890 to 1912 and then of Simmons College from 1918 to 1931. His wife,Mary Virginia Cook Parrish and son,Charles H. Parrish Jr.,were also noted educators.
