Marathi Cinema, also known as Marathi film industry, is the segment of Indian cinema, dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Marathi language widely spoken in the state of Maharashtra. It is based in Mumbai. It is the oldest film industry of India and one of the leaders in filmmaking in the Indian film industry.
Maharashtra State Film Awards, one of the prestigious awards of Marathi cinema, are awarded by the Government of Maharashtra to Marathi language films and artists. They were first awarded in 1963.

Kaksparsh is a 2012 Indian Marathi period drama film directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and produced by Aniruddha Deshpande and Medha Manjrekar. The film stars Sachin Khedekar, Priya Bapat, Medha Manjrekar, Savita Malpekar and Ketaki Mategaonkar. Based on a short story by Usha Datar by the same name, the film depicts the tumultuous events in a Chitpavan Brahmin family, set around 1930–1950 in Konkan. The film was a commercial success and got critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay by Girish Joshi and also for the performances by its actors, especially Khedekar for his portrayal of Hari Damle as a head of the family.
Duniyadari is a 2013 Indian Marathi-language coming-of-age romantic comedy drama film directed by Sanjay Jadhav and produced by Deepak Rane under Dreaming 24/7 Productions. It is considered to be a cult film in Marathi cinema. The film stars an ensemble cast of Swapnil Joshi, Ankush Chaudhari, Urmila Kanitkar Kothare, Sai Tamhankar, Jitendra Joshi, Sushant Shelar, Uday Sabnis, Uday Tikekar, Varsha Usgaonkar, Sandeep Kulkarni, and Nagesh Bhosle. The film is based on the novel of the same name by late author Suhas Shirvalkar and ran for more than 100 days in cinemas. The film is about the journey of everyone which eventually makes them realise the true face of life.
Lai Bhaari is a 2014 Indian Marathi-language action drama film directed by Nishikant Kamat. The film marks the debut of Riteish Deshmukh in Marathi cinema, while Salman Khan and Genelia D'Souza also make cameo appearances. It was the first Marathi that was made on such a big scale, film became the highest grossing Marathi film during that time. It was declared a blockbuster at the box office.
