Todd Snyder is an American fashion designer based in New York City. He founded his eponymous fashion label in 2011, and has been called "the most influential menswear designer of his generation" by GQ. [1] The brand was acquired by American Eagle Outfitters in 2015. [2]

Early life and education

Snyder was born and raised in Ames, Iowa, [3] where he played on his high school's football team. Ames, Iowa had a population of 66,427 in 2020; [4] the 27,854 students of Iowa State University account for about half of the city's population. [5] His father was a civil engineer who "wore a suit and tie every day", [6] and Snyder worked at their civil engineering firm as a draftsperson and surveyor. [6] He initially studied finance at Iowa State University before changing his major to apparel merchandising and design. [7]

Career

In the 1990s, Snyder was a tailor’s assistant at Badowers, a Des Moines menswear shop founded in 1950. [8] Snyder moved to New York to design outerwear for Polo Ralph Lauren before becoming the director of menswear for the Gap Inc. Snyder later became SVP of menswear at J. Crew, where he introduced formal wear and created collaborations with heritage brands, including Timex, Red Wing Shoes, Thomas Mason, and Alden. [9] [10]

Snyder founded his namesake label in 2011 in New York City. The brand launched its first menswear collection in the Fall of 2011 at Bergdorf Goodman, Ron Herman, and Neiman Marcus. In 2012, the fashion label was picked up by Barneys New York and select Nordstrom stores. In November 2015, American Eagle purchased the Todd Snyder clothing brand and Snyder's Tailgate brand of vintage-inspired collegiate sportswear for $11 million. [11] [12]

Snyder is inspired by Savile Row craftsmanship, military tailoring, and New York style. Snyder has stated he wants to "make it easier for guys to dress better". [6]

In 2013 Todd Snyder launched a partnership with heritage sportswear brand Champion, which was established in 1919. [1]

In July 2019, Snyder created a Moby’s x Todd Snyder capsule collection in collaboration with Hamptons restaurateur Lincoln Pilcher. [13]

Todd Snyder commemorated the 10th anniversary of the brand by partnering with Vans on sneakers in the Vans Slip-On 98 DX and the Lace-Up 73 DX models redesigned with cork insoles and premium suede. [14]

Todd Snyder and New Balance have a long-running collaboration, including a limited-edition version of the New Balance 237. [15]

In 2023 Todd Snyder partnered with Michael Graham, founder of Brooklyn-based Savant Studios, on a capsule collection called Artifacts. [16]

D.S. & Durga collaborated with Todd Snyder on a fragrance named Young Dunes, [17] and its products are sold in Todd Snyder boutiques.

Raun LaRose is an American menswear fashion designer based in New York, New York. He has received recognition for his futuristic style and use of progressive fabrics and texture in his work. He attended Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) majoring in menswear design. Larose later traveled to Paris, France in order to intern with designer, Zac Posen (2010). When he returned to the States, he decided to work on his self-titled brand, "Raun Larose." He returned to Paris in 2012 to attend Paris Fashion Week and was profiled by Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ), Women's Wear Daily (WWD), as well as other press outlets. Shortly after, he traveled to London, England, where he collaborated with Rankin Studios in a fashion video entitled, "The Dancer" (2012). He was featured in Vogue Italia in the September issue of 2012, in which he was profiled as one of the 190 emerging designers worldwide. His 2015 collection, "Because the Internet," has been received with rave reviews worldwide. Recently, Raun Larose was sponsored by the CFDA, where he was given a platform for his first presentation in New York City during New York Fashion Week Men's for his namesake collection, for Fall 2017. His collection, "To Whom It May Concern," was profiled widely.
