It has several new industrial beats that Tim Sköld added when he joined the band as the bassist in 2002. It was the most successful song from The Golden Age of Grotesque following "mOBSCENE". The UK release features the band's cover of the Geto Boys' "Mind of a Lunatic." British band Goldfrapp produced a remix of the song featured as the second track on the UK release. In 2015, the Canadian DJ and record producer Rezz released the new official remix of the song.
"Too Young to Die" is a song by British funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai, released as the second single from their debut studio album, Emergency on Planet Earth (1993). The original version of the track runs at 10:18; however, both the single and album versions were cut, running at 3:22 and 6:05, respectively. The single peaked at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and reached the top 50 in France, Iceland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland. The track's stems were made available to the public in March 2013 as part of a remix competition for the song; as such, there is an abundance of bootleg remixes to the song in addition to the official remixes. The competition was won by Australian DJ and music producer Late Nite Tuff Guy.

"Too Much of Heaven" is a song written by the Italian dance group Eiffel 65 and the second official single from their first album, Europop. The single was originally released in Italy on 11 May 1999. It was released in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and in several European countries in March 2000. "Too Much of Heaven", peaked at number 20 for 9 weeks on the Eurochart Hot 100. This was the last Eiffel 65 song to peak at number 1 on the Italian singles chart, and a top 10 hit in France and top 25 in Switzerland. The song is about the downsides of being too greedy. It has been described as possibly "the very first example of rapping through Auto-Tune", although without much influence on hip-hop in general.

"Nightcall" is a song by French electro house artist Kavinsky, released as a single in 2010. It was produced with Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by electronic artist Sebastian. It features Lovefoxxx, lead singer of Brazilian band CSS, on vocals and includes remixes by Xavier de Rosnay, Jackson and his Computer Band and Breakbot. The track was used in the title sequence for the film Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. "Nightcall" was included on Kavinsky's debut studio album, OutRun (2013).
"Lisztomania" is a song by the French band Phoenix from their fourth album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. It is their second single from the album, although a music video of the song was released before "1901". The music video shows them walking around Bayreuth, Germany, inside and outside the Franz Liszt Museum, Wahnfried, the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, sitting inside the Festspiel Theatre, performing live and going outside to find a blimp like the one shown on the album cover. The song helped the album to be their most successful following their previous hit, "1901".

It premiered a day earlier with airplay on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show. Following the premiere, the single was sent to alternative radio, where it impacted in the United States during the week of 26 February. It was also featured on the soundtrack album of the 2013 American heist thriller film Now You See Me.
