"Chloroform" is a song written [1] and performed by Phoenix, issued as the first promotional single from the band's fifth studio album Bankrupt! . The official remix of the song features noise pop band Sleigh Bells.

On 30 April 2013, the band performed the song on Late Show with David Letterman during the Live on Letterman webcast that also featured performances of several of their other songs. [2]

Music video

Although the song was not issued as an official single, a music video was created for the song, directed by Sofia Coppola (the wife of lead singer Thomas Mars). [3]

Critical reception

The song has received positive reviews from critics. Jon Dolan of Rolling Stone referred to the song as "restrained pout soul"; [4] while Chris Payne of Billboard called the song a highlight and complimented its "balmy, tropical feel" while comparing it favorably to the work of Delorean and The Tough Alliance. [5] Steven Arroyo of Time highlighted the song as one of the best songs on the album (along with official lead single "Entertainment" and album cut "Bourgeois"). [6]

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is the fourth studio album by French indie pop band Phoenix. It was released on 25 May 2009 by V2 Records. The album follows-up their 2006 album It's Never Been Like That (2006) which released 3 years after that album released. While the band's previous work enjoyed a moderate underground following, the release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix drew the attention of a more mainstream audience. In the US, Phoenix began a promotional tour including performances on several late night talk shows. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix continued to gain momentum with the increased exposure of the tour. The album received critical acclaim with many publications calling it one of the best albums of 2009. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix earned the band a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards held on 31 January 2010.

The album was recorded between 2011 and 2012 and was driven after the moderate success of their third album, Hands All Over (2010), and later by the enormous success of the re-released edition, which was promoted by the single "Moves Like Jagger", recorded as a collaboration with Christina Aguilera. Bankrupt! is the fifth studio album by French indie pop band Phoenix. The album was released on 19 April 2013 by Loyauté, Glassnote Records and Atlantic Records. It is the band's follow up to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, which was released four years earlier in 2009. The album was produced by the band with Philippe Zdar and was recorded in a span of two years at Studios d'Herbécourt and Motorbass Studios in Paris, France, and at Oscilloscope Laboratories in New York City, United States. The album received generally favorable reviews from music critics upon release. It debuted at number 3 on the French Albums Chart, number 4 on the Billboard 200, and number 14 on the UK Albums Chart.

"J-Boy" was the first single, released on 27 April 2017, "Ti Amo" was the second, released on 18 May. The third single, "Goodbye Soleil" was released on 2 June. The album received generally positive reviews from critics. It was a modest commercial success, peaking at number 17 in France and within the top 40 in Australia, Belgium, and Switzerland.
