Toronto Atomic FC is a Canadian soccer club founded in 2013. The team is currently operating an indoor team in the Arena Premier League under the name Ukraine AC. Toronto also fields several youth teams in CAF - Canadian Academy of Futbol. While Ukraine AC play their home matches at Canlan Sportsplex in Mississauga, Ontario.

History

Atomic Selects Toronto FC was formed in 2013 as a soccer academy by HVAC contractor Ihor Prokipchuk. On February 10, 2015 Toronto Atomic joined the professional ranks as an expansion franchise in the Canadian Soccer League. [1] [2] [3] [4] The club received territorial rights in Etobicoke a district of Toronto and Centennial Park Stadium would serve as their home venue. Toronto Atomic secured the services of Ihor Yavorskyi as head coach with previous experience in the Ukrainian Premier League. [5] Yavorskyi was able to acquire players who played in the Ukrainian top tier like Vasyl Shpuk, Ihor Ilkiv, Ihor Melnyk, Igor Migalevskyy, Andriy Dankiv, Mykhaylo Basarab, Oleksandr Semenyuk, Volodymyr Plishka, Denys Rylsky, Oleksandr Tomakh, and Stanislav Katana. [6] [7] The club made its CSL debut on May 9, 2015 in a 3-0 victory over Niagara United with Migalevskyy, Melnyk, and Mykola Voytsekhovskyy contributing the goals. [8] Midway through the season Yavorskyi was dismissed from his post with Vasyl Ishchak being named his successor. [9] [10]

Ishchak managed to secure a postseason for the organization by finishing fifth in the overall standings. Their opponents in the quarterfinals were SC Waterloo, but lost the match by a score of 2-0. [11] At the conclusion of the season Toronto received two league awards one for Ihor Melnyk as CSL Rookie of the Year, and Ishchak for CSL Coach of the Year. [12] [13] In preparations for the 2016 season Atomic extended Ischak contract, and named Michael Tischer team captain. [14] Serhiy Konyushenko was appointed the head coach for the reserve team in the CSL Second Division. [15] Toronto Atomic entered a team in the newly formed CAF LIKA Supergroup open division. [16]

Toronto brought in further imports from the Ukraine signing Ivan Sozansky, Ostap Talochka, Roman Sakhno, Bohdan Polyakhov, and Canadian international Terry Dunfield. [17] [18] For the second straight season Toronto secured a postseason berth by finishing fifth in the standings. [19] In the preliminary round of the playoffs Atomic were eliminated from the competition after a 1-0 loss to the Serbian White Eagles. [20] In the Second Division the reserve team finished second in the regular season, and reached the CSL D2 Championship final where they faced the York Region Shooters B, but suffered a 2-1 defeat. [21]

In 2017, Toronto Atomic discontinued the use of their senior team in the CSL, but continued fielding a team in the CAF LIKA Supergroup Open Division. [22]

In 2017, Toronto Atomic began fielding an indoor team, and became a founding member in the Arena Premier League as Ukraine AC. [23] [24]

Toronto Croatia won their sixth championship in a 1–0 victory over SC Waterloo in the CSL Championship final held at Warrior Field in Waterloo, Ontario. In the regular season, the Serbian White Eagles clinched their fourth regular-season title, while Milton SC won their first second division championship.

The 2016 Canadian Soccer League season was the 19th season under the Canadian Soccer League name. The first match of the season was played on May 21, 2016, and ended on October 30, 2016. The season concluded with Serbian White Eagles claiming their second CSL Championship by defeating expansion franchise Hamilton City SC by a score of 2-1. In the Second Division, the York Region Shooters B defeated Toronto Atomic FC B 2-1. During the regular season, York Region claimed their fifth regular-season title and achieved a team milestone by recording their best defensive record allowing only 10 goals a record not matched since the Ottawa Wizards in the 2003 CPSL season. Meanwhile, SC Waterloo acquired their third Second Division regular-season title.

The 2017 Canadian Soccer League season was the 20th season under the Canadian Soccer League name. The season began on May 26, 2017, and concluded on September 30, 2017, with the CSL Championship final. The season saw the York Region Shooters claim their third CSL Championship by defeating Scarborough SC in a penalty shootout. In the Second Division, FC Ukraine United went home with their first CSL double after defeating Burlington SC in the finals. FC Ukraine became the second club in the Second Division after TFC Academy II in 2012 to go undefeated the entire regular season. While FC Vorkuta became the second expansion franchise in CSL history since the Ottawa Wizards in the 2001 season to claim the r title in their debut season.

FC Continentals is a Canadian soccer club founded in 2008. The team is currently a member of the Canadian Soccer League, a non-FIFA sanctioned league. The club originally played under the name FC Vorkuta and was renamed FC Continentals in 2022. Their home venue is Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto, Ontario.

The 2017 FC Vorkuta season was the first season in the club's participation in the Canadian Soccer League. The club made its professional debut on May 27, 2017 in a home match against Milton SC, which resulted in a 7-0 victory with goals coming from Oleh Kerchu, Danylo Lazar, Oleg Shutov, Vadym Gostiev, and Yaroslav Svorak. The season concluded with Vorkuta clinching the regular season title in their debut season. In the postseason they achieved a victory in the preliminary round, but were eliminated from the competition in the semifinals.

The 2018 Canadian Soccer League season was the 21st season under the Canadian Soccer League name. The season began on May 13, 2018, and concluded on October 13, 2018, with the CSL Championship final held at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. FC Vorkuta won their first championship by defeating Scarborough SC in a penalty shootout. Vorkuta found further success in the Second Division by winning their first CSL double after defeating Halton United in the finals. Meanwhile FC Ukraine United claimed the First Division title.
