Tripura is a state in the North-East India and the third smallest state in India. [1] [2] [3] [4] Tripura is widely regarded as a beautiful destination, appreciated for its picturesque landscape and delightful climate. The tourism in Tripura is maintained by TTDCL, a state government owned enterprise.

Khumulwng is the head-quarter and the largest city of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. [38] [39] [40] [41] It is located around 18 km from Agartala.

Transportation

Arriving by Air: The Maharaja Bir Bikram International Airport is well-connected to major cities in India. Taxi services, including Uber, and auto-rickshaws are available at airports for transfers to the city.

Arriving by Train: Tripura is connected through the North East Frontier Railway, with only one route linking it to nodal stations in other parts of the country. Agartala railway station is the largest railway station of Tripura, is served by direct trains to New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru.

Road: The Tripura Road Transport Corporation alongside various private companies, there are bus and taxi services that operate, connecting Agartala with Guwahati, Shillong, and Aizawl. Agartala is linked by regular bus services with Bangladesh, making it more convenient for foreign nationals to enter Tripura via Bangladesh. [83]

It is the third international airport in North-East India, after Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport and Imphal Airport.

The State of Tripura, in northeastern India, has a long history. The Twipra Kingdom at its peak included the whole eastern region of Bengal from the Brahmaputra River in the north and west, the Bay of Bengal in the south and Burma to the east during the 14th and 15th centuries AD.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tripuri people</span> Ethnic group of North-East India and Bangladesh

The Tripuri are a Tibeto-Burman-speaking ethnic group of Northeast Indian state of Tripura. They are the descendants of the inhabitants of the Twipra/Tripura Kingdom in North-East India and Bangladesh. The Tripuri people through the Manikya dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Tripura for ~450 years until the kingdom joined the Indian Union on 15 October 1949.

Belonia is a town and municipal council in South Tripura district, Tripura, India. It is also the headquarters of South Tripura District. It is linked with Agartala by National Highway 108A from Belonia to Jolaibari and via National Highway 8 from Jolaibari to Agartala. Belonia lies on the border with Bangladesh.

The Pushbanta Palace also known as Kunjaban Palace is one of former royal palace of Tripura, it was built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya in 1917. It was the Raj Bhavan of Tripura till 2018, which later shifted. The palace is being developed as a national-level cultural museum.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Neermahal</span> Water Palace in Tripura, India

Neermahal also known as Twijilikma Nuyung is a former royal palace of Tripura Kingdom, built by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya bahadur in 1930. It is also the largest water palace in India. The palace is situated in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake, in Melaghar 53 kilometers away from Agartala, the capital of Tripura.

The Ujjayanta Palace also known as Nuyungma, in Tripuri, is the former royal palace of Tripura kingdom built by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya in 1901. It housed the State Legislative Assembly up to 2011. At present, it is the State Museum of Tripura, which is located in the capital Agartala.

Jagannath Mandir or temple located within the Ujjayanta Palace grounds in Agartala, Tripura, India is dedicated to the Hindu Gods Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Radha Kishore Manikya</span> Maharaja

Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya of the Manikya Dynasty reigned as the king of Tripura State from 1897 to 1909. He has been described as one of the architects of modern Tripura.

Pilak is an archaeological site in the Santirbazar sub-division of South Tripura district of the Indian state of Tripura. Many images and structures, belonging to Buddhist and Hindu sects, have been discovered here since 1927. The antiquities found here are dated to 8th to 12th centuries.

Gomati district is a district of Tripura, India. This district was created in January 2012 when four new districts were created in Tripura, taking the number of districts in the state from four to eight. Udaipur is its headquarters.

Tripura State, also known as Hill Tipperah, was a princely state in India during the period of the British Raj and for some two years after the departure of the British. Its rulers belonged to the Manikya dynasty and until August 1947 the state was in a subsidiary alliance, from which it was released by the Indian Independence Act 1947. The state acceded to the newly independent Indian Union on 13 August 1947, and subsequently merged into the Indian Union in October 1949.

Melaghar is a small town located in the Indian state of Tripura and a Municipal Council in Sipahijala district, situated about 50 km from the capital Agartala. It is a neighbour to Sonamura and 10 km away from the Bangladesh International border. Neermahal is a famous tourist attraction in the town, situated in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake.

Tripura Government Museum or the Tripura State Museum, is a multicultural museum with emphasis on art and crafts of the state of Tripura; established on 22 June 1970 and shifted to the Ujjayanta Palace on 25 September 2013 with an official inauguration held by Hamid Ansari, former Vice president of India. It is North-east India's largest museum with a "National perspective while remaining focused on Tripura and northeast India".

Kasbeswari Kali Mata or Kamalasagar Kali Temple was built on a hill-top by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in the late 15th century. It is situated just beside the Bangladesh border, The lake, Kamalasagar, in front of this temple rightly enhances its beauty.

The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), also known as the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance, is a regional political party and previously a social organisation in Tripura, India. The TIPRA is led by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma. It is currently the second largest party in Tripura Legislative Assembly

Maitri Setu is a 1.9-kilometre (1.2 mi) bridge on Feni River which links Sabroom in Tripura, India and Ramgarh in Chittagong, Bangladesh leading to Chittagong port, thus providing a shorter and more economical alternate land route between India's eastern and western states compared to the longer route through Assam. On 9 March 2021, it was officially opened to public by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Akhaura–Agartala line is a railway line between Bangladesh and India. The railway line is a pivotal achievement for both countries. It has several benefits including, boosting tourism in the North East of India, reducing travel time from Kolkata-Agartala from 38 hours to a mere 10 hours by rail, reducing cost of cargo transport to and from Bangladesh and the North East of India, improving bilateral relations and more. It is expected to also act as a gateway to other NE Indian states such as Assam, southern Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
