Gomati district is a district of Tripura, India. This district was created in January 2012 when four new districts were created in Tripura, taking the number of districts in the state from four to eight. [2] Udaipur is its headquarters.
The district is famous for its Mata Tripura Sundari Temple which is situated about 3 km away from Udaipur at Matabari. The temple is one of the 51 Mahapithasthans of India. The Gomati figures prominently in Tripura's native folklore, culture, religious rites and ritual so much so that Tripuri people perform posthumous rites.
Topographically, the Gomati district is marked by lush green and fertile Gomati valleys. The towering Debtamura hill range which straddles Udaipur and Amarpur subdivisions of the district with its exquisite sculptural works carved on panels of the hills. [3]
There are 173 villages in this district. The whole district is served by 16 police stations. The only municipality in the district is Udaipur
There are three sub-divisions in Gomati district. They are Udaipur subdivision, Amarpur subdivision and Karbook subdivision.
There are eight blocks under Gomati District. They are Matabari, Tepania, Killa, Kakraban, Amarpur, Ompi, Karbook and Silachhari [4]
Places of Interest at Gomati district are as follows: [5]
1. Tripureshwari Mandir -This is the main attraction of the district. This temple was built on 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya.
2. Bhuvaneswari Temple – The temple is situated besides the river Gomati and is located close to the old royal palace which lies in ruins today. The Bhuvaneswari Temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhuvaneswari and was built in the 17th century by Maharaja Govinda Manikya. [6]
3. Old Rajbari -The Ruins of Rajbari, When Udaipur was the capital of the state. Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore Visited this place.
4. Gunabati Temple – Commonly known as Gunabati Mandir Gucchha, it is a group of three temples. Stone inscription of one temple reveals that it was built in the name of Her Highness Maharani Gunabati (wife of Maharaja Govinda Manikya), in 1668 A.D. [7]
5. Chobimura – Rock-carved images of Devi Durga and other deities are present here on the bank of River Gomati.
6. Tepania eco-park – This park is situated by the side of NH-8. This place has lush green forest and a tree house which are maintained very carefully.
6. Tirthmukh- Another pilgrimage centre, located in this district in Amarpur Sub Division.
National Highway 8 (NH 8), running from Karimganj in Assam to Sabroom in Tripura, passes through this district. [8]
Lumding–Sabroom line of Northeast Frontier Railway passes through Sipahijala district. The segment from Agartala to Sabroom via Udaipur may become operational in 2016. [9] [10] There are two stations in the district, namely Udaipur Tripura railway station and Garjee railway station, providing connectivity to Tripura capital Agartala and Assam and other major cities of the state like Dharmanagar, Udaipur and Belonia. Built by the Maharaja of Tripura of the Manikya Dynasty in the 19th century, the Jagannath temple is situated in the Ujjayanta Palace grounds and is dedicated to the Hindu Gods Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra.
The Lumding–Sabroom section is a railway line under Lumding railway division of Northeast Frontier Railway zone of Indian Railways. It is a single 1,676 mm broad-gauge track from Lumding in Nagaon District of Assam state to Agartala in West Tripura district of Tripura state. The 43 km-long 1,676 mm segment from Agartala southwards to Udaipur, Tripura was completed in 2016 and became operational on 23 January 2017. The remaining 70 km long track to Sabroom at the bank of Feni River at Bangladesh border was completed in 2019 and became operational on 3 October 2019.

Bijoy Sagar is a lake in Udaipur in North-East India. It is also called Mahadeb Dighi. It is one of the largest lakes in Udaipur in Tripura. The lake is 750 feet in length and 450 feet in breadth. The area around the lake is densely settled. The lake is contaminated with domestic sewage and waste water through one drain located on the north-eastern side. The population depends on Bijoy Sagar for bathing, washing, fishery etc. Also solid waste by the surrounding households area also vacated into the Mahadev Dighi. It is also alternatively spelt as Bejoy Sagar.

Garjee railway station is a railway station in Gomati district, Tripura. Its code is JRJE. It serves Garjee village. The station lies on the Agartala–Sabroom rail section, which comes under the Lumding railway division of the Northeast Frontier Railway. The segment from Garjee to Sabroom became operational on 3 October 2019.
Sabroom railway station, is a railway station which serves Sabroom town in South Tripura district of Tripura state of India. It is located near Feni River which serves as Bangladesh–India border.
Santirbazar is a town and Municipal Council in South Tripura district, Tripura, India located 84 kms away from state capital Agartala. It is linked with Agartala by National Highway 8 via Udaipur and Bishramganj to Sabroom.
Chabimura also known as Chakwrakma or Chakrakma is famous for its panels of rock carving on steep mountain wall on the bank of Gomati river in Indian state Tripura. There are huge carved images of Shiva, Vishnu, Kartika, Mahisasura Mardini Durga and other Gods and Goddesses.
Kasbeswari Kali Mata or Kamalasagar Kali Temple was built on a hill-top by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in the late 15th century. It is situated just beside the Bangladesh border, The lake, Kamalasagar, in front of this temple rightly enhances its beauty.
