Transcarga International Airways C.A. (also known as TIACA) is a cargo airline based in Caracas, Venezuela. It operates charter cargo services. [1]

History

A Venezuelan businessman by the name of Julio Marquez Biaggi, also a former pilot for Viasa and KLM, and son of one of Viasa's chairmen, founded Transcarga on October 21, 1998. To help with his endeavor, he was joined by Luis Felipe Ayala V, an expert in the area of finances. The airline started operations in November 2001. It is owned by Julio Marquez Biaggi (with a 99.0% stake) who is CEO of the company.

Transcarga received its first certification as an airline in Venezuela in the year 2001, in 2002, it received the 402 permit from the United States Department of Transportation, enabling it to operate under "wet lease" status to and from the United States, thus generating employment for several Venezuelan pilots.

Since its establishment, the company has strived to maintain the highest quality standards in the national and international cargo transport service. The service has been aimed at small and medium-sized Venezuelan producers, both internally and for the export needs of perishable products such as fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc. Another key segment is the parcel service, documents, correspondence, special oil cargo and securities.

The airline's services are aimed to the small and medium Venezuelan producers; serving from the internal national market to the exportation needs of perishable products such as fish, shrimp, vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc. Another key market segment is its courier service of mail, documents, and other packages.

Transcarga is outsourcing its services to larger companies such as Servicio Panamericano de Proteccion, DHL, FedEx, UPS, among others. Transcarga also operates in the Caribbean through a wet lease with the Ameriflight company two daily flights.

In 2021, the airline founded a Panamanian subsidiary named Cargo Three, and plans to begin operations soon with three McDonnell Douglas MD-10s. [2]

In 2023, the Ministerio del Trabajo de La Guaira received complaint as the company was suspected of failing to pay enough funds and foreign currency to its workers. [7] [8]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Convair 880</span> American four-engine jet airliner (1960–1990s)

The Convair 880 is an American narrow-body jet airliner produced by the Convair division of General Dynamics. It was designed to compete with the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 by being smaller but faster, a niche that failed to create demand. When it was first introduced, some in aviation circles claimed that at 615 mph (990 km/h), it was the fastest jet transport in the world. Only 65 Convair 880s were produced over the lifetime of the production run from 1959 to 1962, and General Dynamics eventually withdrew from the airliner market after considering the 880 project a failure. The Convair 990 Coronado was a stretched and faster variant of the 880.

The Ilyushin Il-76 is a multi-purpose, fixed-wing, four-engine turbofan strategic airlifter designed by the Soviet Union's Ilyushin design bureau as a commercial freighter in 1967, to replace the Antonov An-12. It was developed to deliver heavy machinery to remote, poorly served areas. Military versions of the Il-76 have been widely used in Europe, Asia and Africa, including use as an aerial refueling tanker or command center.

Avensa was a Venezuelan airline headquartered in Caracas. It was in the process of financial restructuring, after it went into bankruptcy due to poor management in 2002, with Santa Barbara Airlines taking over its routes, although a single Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia continued to carry the Avensa name in service until it was grounded for good in 2004. Avensa operated from its hub at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetía.

AeroEjecutivos C.A. was a Venezuelan scheduled and charter regional airline headquartered in Maiquetia and based at Óscar Machado Zuloaga International Airport.

Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela C.A. is a state-owned airline of Venezuela based in Torre Polar Oeste in Caracas, Venezuela. It operates domestic services and international services in the Caribbean. Its main base is Simón Bolívar International Airport. The airline ceased operations on September 24, 2017, after 88 years of service due to its financial position. On August 8, 2018, the company announced that it would begin scheduled service again, first to Havana, Cuba with three weekly flights.

Viasa Flight 742 was an international, scheduled passenger flight from Caracas, Venezuela to Miami International Airport with an intermediate stopover in Maracaibo, Venezuela that crashed on 16 March 1969. After taking off on the Maracaibo to Miami leg, the DC-9-30 hit a series of power lines before crashing into the La Trinidad section of Maracaibo. All 84 people on board perished, as well as 71 on the ground.

American Airlines Flight 383 was a scheduled passenger flight from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois to Miami International Airport. On October 28, 2016, the Boeing 767-300ER operating the flight suffered an engine fire during takeoff. The crew aborted their takeoff, evacuating everyone on board, of whom 21 were injured. The plane was a write-off.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2019 Saha Airlines Boeing 707 crash</span> Aviation accident

On 14 January 2019, a Boeing 707 operated by Saha Airlines on a cargo flight crashed at Fath Air Base, near Karaj, Alborz Province in Iran. Fifteen of the sixteen people on board were killed. This aircraft was the last civil Boeing 707 in operation.
