Turku Air was [1] a Finnish regional airline and air taxi company founded 1974. Turku Air had several Piper PA-31-350 airplanes and operated scheduled flights between Turku, Mariehamn and Tallinn as well as chartered cargo and air taxi services.[ citation needed ]

Finnish Commuter Airlines Oy, trading as Finncomm Airlines, was a regional airline with its head office on the grounds of Seinäjoki Airport in Ilmajoki, Finland, near Seinäjoki. The carrier operated flights to Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Sweden and 16 destinations within Finland from its base at Helsinki Airport. The airline was a member of the European Regions Airline Association. Finncomm Airlines was the largest domestic air carrier in Finland in terms of number of flights.

Turku Airport, is located in Turku, Finland, 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) north of the centre, in Lentokenttä district in the Maaria-Paattinen ward of Turku. It serves approximately 450,000 passengers per year, being the fourth busiest airport in Finland by the number of passengers and second busiest airport by the amount of cargo tonnes. Turku Airport is exclusively operated by the state-owned company Finavia. Among normal operation the airport offers differentiated service specifically designed for low-cost airlines since 2008.

STX Finland Oy, formerly Aker Yards Oy, was a Finnish shipbuilding company operating three shipyards in Finland, in Turku, Helsinki and Rauma, employing some 2,500 people. It was part of STX Europe, a group of international shipbuilding companies owned by the South Korean STX Corporation.

Wingo xprs was a small airline company in Finland that was founded 2007. Wingo xprs had no planes or staff of its own but rented them instead. Wingo xprs operated three destination with one plane. The flight went from Turku via Tampere to Oulu. In 2008, Wingo xprs served 18,000 passengers. According to Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat, the new shareholders approved transfer of its headquarters from Tampere to Turku. The Saab 340, leased by Avitrans Nordic, was replaced with the ATR-42 models. The new chief executive officer was Holger Holm. In 2010, the airline ceased all operations.

Aero Flight 217 1963 aviation accident

Aero Flight 217 was a domestic passenger flight from Helsinki, Finland, to Mariehamn in the autonomous territory of Åland, operated by the Finnish flag carrier Aero O/Y. On 8 November 1963, the aircraft serving the flight crashed in poor visibility while attempting to land on a non-precision approach at Mariehamn Airport in the municipality of Jomala, resulting in the deaths of 22 people out of 25 on board. The crash remains the second most deadly aviation accident in Finland, the first being Aero Flight 311 almost two years earlier.

1987 <i>Viking Sally</i> murder Murder aboard a ferry in 1987

The 1987 Viking Sally murder is a homicide which took place on 28 July 1987, aboard the cruiseferry MS Viking Sally, in Finnish waters en route from Stockholm, Sweden, to Turku, Finland. An assailant attacked two West German tourists, Klaus Schelkle and Bettina Taxis, killing the former and seriously injuring the latter. In September 2020, Finnish police announced charges against a suspect and passed the case on to prosecutors. In June 2021, the suspect was acquitted. The crime remains unsolved.
