The EirGrid U20 Footballer of the year, (previously known as the Cadbury's Hero of the Future) is a Gaelic football award given to the top performing under-20 (formerly under-21) player in the Provincial and All-Ireland Championship each year. The award was first awarded in 2006.

Bernard Brogan is a Gaelic footballer from the St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh club who previously played for the Dublin county team. He is originally from the Battery Heights. From a famous footballing family, he is the son of former All-Ireland winning and All Star player Bernard Brogan Snr and is the brother of former Dublin players Alan and Paul. His uncle Jim was also an inter-county footballer for Dublin. Alongside most of his family, Brogan has attended St. Declan's College on Navan Road.

The 2011 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship was the 48th staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964.

The Leinster Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in gaelic football played in the province of Leinster. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 championship following a vote at the GAA Congress on 26 February 2016.
