UPF World Summit

The World Summit is a UPF project that aims to bring together the heads of state, who with their vast experience and wisdom can help build a world of mutual understanding, sustainable peace and prosperity for all.

Contents

Parliamentarians, religious leaders, representatives of civil society and women leaders also participate in the World Summit.

During the world summit, various sessions are held that present the work of various UPF associations for peace in the world, such as:

International Peace Summit in Sao Tome and Principe 2019

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan delivered the opening speech at the 2019 International Peace Summit in Sao Tome and Principe. The conference was attended by several current and former African leaders, such as the president and prime minister of Sao Tome, the former president of Niger and the former president of Guinea-Bissau.

The theme of the conference was: "Building a Peaceful and Prosperous Africa Centered on Universal Values: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values".

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan attended the conference as chairman of the newly launched International Peace Council, Africa. [3] [4] [5]

2020 World Summit

Peace, security and human development were discussed at the 2020 World Summit in South Korea. The Summit was attended by the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, former President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan, Newt Gingrich, former President of the US Congress and many other world leaders.

During the 2020 World Summit General Assembly, former UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon received the Sunhak Peace Prize.

The summit meeting of the International Peace Council, which was attended by many former and current presidents of states, was chaired by former Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan. [6] [7] [8] [9]

2022 Asia- Pacific Forums

During 2022, the UPF held a series of global forums to discuss the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Global forums were held on all continents, with the aim of finding strategies for peace on the Korean peninsula, within the scope of the Think Tank 2022 project, which brings together numerous experts.

The forums are organized by seven different UPF associations and are part of the 2022 World Summit. [10]

World Summit 2022

The UPF and the Royal Government of Cambodia have convened the World Summit for Peace on the Korean Peninsula 2022 in South Korea.

Many world political and religious leaders from more than 150 countries participated in the World Summit and discussed how to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Former US President Trump, Sall, President of Senegal, former US Secretary of Stat e Pompeo, former US Congress President Gingrich, former European Commission President Barroso, former US Vice President Pence,  and numerous other world leaders took part in the summit, live or via video.

During the 2022 World Summit General Assembly, Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, received the Sunhak Peace Prize.

The Sunhak Peace Prize was also awarded to prof. Sarah Gilbert and Gavi from the University of Oxford for their contribution to ending the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the Summit for Peace, numerous meetings were held such as the THINK TANK Forum 2022, the International Summit of the Peace Council, the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace, the International Media Association for Peace, the World Association of Entrepreneurs for Peace and the Seonhak Peace Award Ceremony. Summit 2022 and Leadership Conference

UPF organized an international summit for peace in August 2022 in South Korea. The summit was attended by several world leaders such as former Canadian Prime Minister Harper, former President of the US Congress Gingrich, former US Secretary of State Pompeo, former US Vice President Pence, former European Commission President Barroso and others.  

The participants of the summit gave their support to building peace in the world, especially on the Korean Peninsula. Religious freedom was also discussed at the Summit and support was given to the education of young people in Africa.

During the summit, participants were invited to sign three pledges: the Resolution for the Universal Charter of Peace, the Resolution on the Establishment of the African Consultative Council in partnership with the African Union, and the Declaration on the Universal Value of Religious Freedom.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Universal Peace Federation, the Community of Sahelian and Saharan States, the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace and the Sunhak Foundation with the aim of supporting the education of African youth. [16] [17] [18] [19]

She also previously sat on the Twitter Board of Directors, and stepped down in February, 2021 in connection with her appointment as Director General of the World Trade Organization.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Goodluck Jonathan</span> President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015

Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is a Nigerian politician who served as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015. He lost the 2015 presidential election to former military head of state General Muhammadu Buhari, and was the first incumbent president in Nigerian history to concede defeat in an election. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010 under the administration of Umaru Musa Yar'Adua; and in oil-rich Bayelsa State as Governor of Bayelsa State from 2005 to 2007.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">The Elders (organization)</span> Organization founded by Nelson Mandela

The Elders is an international non-governmental organisation of public figures noted as senior statesmen, peace activists and human rights advocates, who were brought together by Nelson Mandela in 2007. They describe themselves as "independent global leaders working together for peace and human rights". The goal Mandela set for The Elders was to use their "almost 1,000 years of collective experience" to work on solutions for seemingly insurmountable problems such as climate change, HIV/AIDS, and poverty, as well as to "use their political independence to help resolve some of the world's most intractable conflicts".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ek Nath Dhakal</span>

Ek Nath Dhakal is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the Nepal Pariwar Dal, and served as Minister for the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction of the Government of Nepal. He is the head of the Nepal chapter of the Universal Peace Federation, a United Nations ECOSOC status international Peace organization.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Global Peace Foundation</span>

The Global Peace Foundation (GPF) is an international nonprofit organization with a stated mission to promote “an innovative, values-based approach to peacebuilding, guided by the vision of One Family under God.” GPF partners with government ministries, community and faith-based organizations, and United Nations offices to develop and execute programs in 20 countries.

Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu OON is a Nigerian political economist. He served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, appointed by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, from 2009 to 2014. He subsequently taught at Tufts University as Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy from 2015 to 2017. He was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the country's general election in February 2019.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ayo Oritsejafor</span>

Ayodele Joseph Oritsegbubemi Oritsejafor, known as Papa Ayo Oritsejafor, is the founding and Senior Pastor of Word of Life Bible Church, located in Warri, Nigeria. He became the national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) on 7 February 2005, a position he held for five years. In July 2010, Oritsejafor was elected President of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), the apex body of all Christians in the country. In doing so he became the first Pentecostal leader to hold the position. Oritsejafor was the first to launch a Miracle crusade from Africa to a world audience via satellite in 1987 with evangelist Joe Martins.

Dame Patience Faka Jonathan (born 25 October 1957) is a Nigerian civil servant who served as the First Lady of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 and second lady of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010. She is the wife of former president and Vice president of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. She served as a Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State.

The 17th Ordinary African Union Summit was held 28 June 2011 through 1 July 2011 in Malabo, the capital city of the Equatorial Guinea. In addition to the meeting of AU heads of state, the AU summit in Malabo included the 19th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council and the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC).

Nahzeem Olufemi "Femi" Mimiko is a Nigerian educational administrator and former vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, a state-owned university named after the former governor of Ondo State, Nigeria, Adekunle Ajasin. The university was ranked the best state university in Nigeria by the United States Transparency International Standard (USTIS) in April 2014. Mimiko was the only vice chancellor delegate at the National Conference in Nigeria held in 2014 under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. Mimiko assumed office in January 2010 and was preceded by Philip Olayede Abiodun. In 2016, he had a stint as African and African-American Studies Associate, at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA.

The Sunhak Peace Prize was established to continue the legacy of Sun Myung Moon and is given biennially in Seoul, Korea, in recognition of individuals and organizations that have made enduring contributions to help resolve worldwide suffering, conflict, poverty, and threats to the environment.

The 2007 Inter-Korean summit meeting was held between October 2 and October 4, 2007, in Pyongyang, between President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea and Kim Jong-il of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). It is the second Inter-Korean summit following the 2000 inter-Korean summit. It is also called the 10.4 Inter-Korean summit. As a result of the talks, both sides announced a declaration for the development of inter-Korean relations and peace and prosperity.

Albino Mathom Ayuel Aboug is a South Sudanese politician and diplomat. Aboug is a member of the South Sudan National Legislative Assembly and represents South Sudan in the Pan-African Parliament. Aboug had previously served in various diplomatic positions throughout Africa, most prominently as one of the peace negotiators during the Central African Republic Civil War. Aboug holds both South Sudanese and American nationality.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Podgorica club</span>

The Podgorica club was founded at the beginning of 2019 in Podgorica, Montenegro. Members of the Podgorica club are former presidents and prime ministers of the countries of the Balkan region, such as former Montenegrin president Filip Vujanović, former Bosnian prime minister Zlatko Lagumdžija, former Slovenian president Danilo Türk, former Croatian president Stjepan Mesić, former Serbian president Nataša Mićić, former Albanian president Alfred Moisiu and other prominent politicians from the Balkans area. The founding of the Podgorica club followed the world summits in South Korea, organized by the Universal Peace Federation, which were attended by politicians from the Balkans, such as former president Vujanović and former Albanian president Moisiu. The Podgorica club thanked the Universal Peace Federation for a successful partnership in affirming the value of cooperation and peace in the international community.

At the beginning of 2016, more than a hundred parliamentarians from more than 40 countries in the Korean parliament founded the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace, based on the "Parliamentarians for Peace" initiative launched by the founders of the Universal Peace Federation, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon in 2001.

The International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP) was launched in South Korea during the 2019 World Summit organized by the UPF with the aim of bringing together current and former heads of state. Among the speakers at the 2019 Summit were Cheney, former US vice president, Gingrich, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and many other politicians and statesmen. Among others, the former presidents of Albania, Ghana, Paraguay and other former presidents participated in the summit. ISCP continues to work on the foundations of the World Peace Summit, established in 1987.
