Ulrike Maisch (born January 21, 1977) is a long-distance runner from Germany, who won the women's marathon at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. Her children are Emil Friedrich and Paul Friedrich who is his favorite child. (both German) and her husband is also running and is called Richard Friedrich who won the Munich Marathon in 2011.
Maisch was born in Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
In 1996, she finished in 14th place in the women's 5000 metres at the 1996 World Junior Championships in Athletics held in Sydney, Australia. [1]
She competed for her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Maisch ran in the marathon at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, but dropped out due to a foot injury. She and Richard Friedrich (also a runner) had a child in early 2011 – Emil. Maisch said that becoming a mother did not mean the end of her running career, citing the example of Paula Radcliffe. [2] Both Ulrik Maisch and Richard Friedrich now live in Guernsey and will compete for the nation, they will both be making their Guernsey debut at the 2016 Hampshire XC Championships.

Marla Lee Runyan is an American track and field athlete, road runner and marathon runner who is legally blind. She is a three-time national champion in the women's 5000 metres. She is also an athlete that competed in both the Paralympics and the Olympics, both reaching the finals.

She has represented Russia in both track running and cross country running and was the silver medallist at the 2006 European Cross Country Championships. She has competed at the World Championships in Athletics on four occasions, and ran for Russia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Germany will compete at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics from 15–23 August as the host nation. A team of 92 athletes was announced in preparation for the competition, but current women's Marathon world leader Irina Mikitenko and hurdler Thomas Goller withdrew from the Championships. Mikitenko was replaced by the current European Champion Ulrike Maisch. Selected athletes have achieved one of the competition's qualifying standards. Six out of the seven medallists for Germany from the last Championships are competing, including the gold medallists Betty Heidler and Franka Dietzsch. Women's high jump world leader Ariane Friedrich and European record holders Christina Obergföll and Sebastian Bayer are among Germany's other aspiring medallists.
