The North West Football League is an Australian rules football competition in North West Tasmania. The league was previously known as the "Northern Tasmanian Football League" from its inception in 1987 until the end of the 2014 season.

The North Hobart Football Club, nicknamed The Demons, is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Tasmanian State League. The club returned to the state league in 2018 after its position was effectively filled by a new club, the Hobart City Football Club after the 2013 season. The club was part of the Tasmanian Football League from the early 1900s through to 2001, where the club joined Southern Football League. In 2009, the club was invited into the second reincarnation of the statewide league where it remained until 2013.
The Claremont Football Club, nicknamed The Magpies, is an Australian rules football club currently playing in the Southern Football League in Tasmania, Australia.
The club has worn a traditional Collingwood-style playing uniform since 1949 and is based in Hobart's northern suburbs, 14 km from the Hobart CBD.
Founded in 1924, Claremont participated in a number of local leagues but is best known for being one Tasmania's most successful amateur football clubs since joining the TAFL Southern Division in 1949, having won a total of seventeen (17) Southern Amateur premiership titles along with ten (10) Condor Shield state amateur premiership titles between 1965–1995.
Following the collapse of the Tasmanian Amateur Football League at the completion of the 1995 season, Claremont became one of the foundation members of the new STFL in 1996 and made the finals in its first season.
In 1997, Claremont made it through to its first STFL Grand Final but suffered a 25-point loss to Kingston, however the Magpies would dwindle away into an unaccustomed wilderness for almost two decades before flying high once again to make four consecutive grand finals between 2013–2016, the latter two years (2015-2016) bringing premiership joy to Claremont for the first time in twenty years and was even more noteworthy by virtue of the fact that Claremont was able to win back-to-back hat-tricks of premiership titles with the club's Colts, Reserves and Seniors all taking out SFL premierships in 2015 and 2016.
In 2017 the Claremont Football Club entered a team in the inaugural season of the Southern Football League Women's Competition and has done in each season since. Claremont Football Club is based at Abbotsfield Park where it has hosted its home matches since 1971, previous to that it played at the St Anne's Cricket Club ground from 1949-1970 and the Claremont Soccer Ground from 1924–1948.
Arthur Edward Clarence Hodgson was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and North Western Football Union (NWFU). Born in Sydney but raised in Queenstown, Tasmania, Hodgson was recruited by the Carlton Football Club in Victoria, playing 76 games and winning the Robert Reynolds Trophy as club best and fairest in 1950. He returned to Tasmania in 1953 as captain-coach of the Ulverstone Football Club, piloting the Robins to four premierships and one state premiership in his seven-year tenure; individually, he won the Wander Medal as league best and fairest in 1955. Hodgson was named in the Tasmanian Team of the Century and was inducted into the Tasmanian Hall of Fame.

West Park Oval is an Australian Rules football, cycling and athletics venue located on the shores of Bass Strait in Burnie, Tasmania. It is the current home of the Burnie Dockers in the Tasmanian State League and previously in the NTFL and in the original TFL Statewide League.

Harold Kennedy "Joe" Littler was an Australian rules footballer who played for South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also had a long career in Tasmania playing in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association, North West Football Union (NWFU), and the North West Football Association (NWFA).

In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and Northern Tasmanian Football Association representing the rest of the state. Burnie, Latrobe and Ulverstone were the most successful clubs with 12 premierships each.
The Tasmanian State Premiership was an Australian rules football tournament which was contested at the conclusion of the season, initially between the reigning Tasmanian Football League (TFL/TANFL) and Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) premiers, and then from 1950 also by the NWFU premiers, to determine an overall premier team for the state of Tasmania. The state premiership was contested 57 times between 1909 and 1978.
The Latrobe Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the town of Latrobe in northern Tasmania. The club competed in the North West Football Union throughout the competition's entire existence from 1910 until 1986, and has competed in its successor, the North West Football League, since 1987. Latrobe was one of the most successful NWFU clubs, and its tally of 12 premierships is a joint record shared with Burnie and Ulverstone. It was the only club to win four successive NWFU premierships, achieved from 1969 to 1972. In 2013, it became the first Tasmanian club outside of the State League to be inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
The Longford Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Longford, Tasmania which currently compete in the modern Northern Tasmanian Football Association. From 1926 until 1986 they had played in the original Northern Tasmanian Football Association. Formed in 1878, Longford are nicknamed the Tigers and wear black and gold as their club colours.

The Leven Football Association (LFA) was an Australian rules football competition in Tasmania, Australia. Four clubs from small communities in northern Tasmania competed for the premiership every year. The games were played on Saturday and both matches were at the same ground in the form of a double-header. Having gone into recess for the 2016 season, the LFA folded in October 2016 after 92 years as a football league.

The East Devonport Football Club is an Australian rules football club based on Devonport, Tasmania. The club competed in the North West Football League since 1987 until going into recess in 2021. The club currently has a full junior program in the NWFL.
Circular Head Football Club is an Australian rules football team that plays in the North West Football League, as the Circular Head Saints, based in the town of Smithton. Known throughout most of its history as the Smithton Saints, the club competed in the North West Football Union in two different stints, from 1949 to 1951 and then 1980 to 1986, then in the NWFL since 1987. It adopted the colours and nickname of Greater Western Sydney, becoming the Circular Head Giants from 2015 to 2019. In February 2019, the club went into recess due to a lack of player numbers, and folded in October of that year. It then reformed, and rejoined the NWFL from 2022, now adopting the name Circular Head Saints.
